King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) Data Engineering Team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our team. This role will interface with architects and business analysts to gather requirements and develop secure and easy to use data pipelines using King County approved software and platforms (Microsoft Azure, SQL, Informatica, Databricks, Python and R etc.)

Position Duties
- Translate business requirements into robust data pipelines that integrate applications with data hubs or other systems.
- Detect and resolve data quality issues across platforms using advanced SQL queries and validation techniques.
- Build and maintain platforms that enable ad-hoc access to large, complex datasets for analytical and operational use.
- Lead internal process improvements by automating workflows, optimizing data delivery, and redesigning infrastructure for scalability and performance.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and produce detailed documentation for complex data integration initiatives.
- Conduct root cause analysis on internal and external data sources to address business challenges and uncover improvement opportunities.
- Integrate and transform data from diverse sources to create new datasets within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering), or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Five or more years of relevant experience in data engineering, advanced analytics, or ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipeline development.
- Three or more years of hands-on experience writing complex, performance-optimized queries and procedures across large datasets.
- Two or more years of experience with scripting languages such as Python, R, or similar.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification in data engineering or data integration technologies.
- Experience with Informatica Cloud, Microsoft SQL Server, Databricks, Python and Oracle etc.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure services including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, BLOB and Data Lake.

Hybrid Work
The Data Engineering Team within KCIT works as a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is the Chinook Building 401 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104, USA.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Work Schedule
The normal work week for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is FLSA Exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay.
