Andover Central School is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and dedicated individual to lead its competitive cheerleading program. The Cheerleading Coach will be responsible for developing and maintaining a successful competitive cheer program, including teaching advanced stunting, tumbling, jumping, and choreography techniques, ensuring student-athlete safety, fostering sportsmanship, and managing all administrative aspects of the team. The coach must uphold the academic and behavioral standards of the school and the district.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Coaching
Instruction & Training: Design, implement, and supervise all practices and training sessions. Teach advanced competitive cheer skills, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, standing tumbling, running tumbling, jumps, and cheer/dance routines.
Safety & Risk Management: Prioritize student-athlete safety. Adhere strictly to all National, State, and school safety guidelines and rules pertaining to competitive cheer. Ensure proper spotting techniques and progression of skills.
Competition Preparation: Develop and choreograph a high-level, score-maximizing routine for competitions. Manage all aspects of competition attendance, including registration, travel, and logistics.
Equipment & Facilities: Maintain inventory and care for all cheerleading equipment (mats, uniforms, music equipment, etc.) and ensure the practice facility is safe and appropriate.
Administration & Management
Compliance: Ensure the team and all cheerleaders adhere to all eligibility, conduct, and academic requirements set by the District.
Scheduling: Coordinate and manage the practice and competition schedule in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
Communication: Maintain open and consistent communication with the Athletic Director, student-athletes, parents/guardians.
Staffing: Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches (if applicable) and/or team volunteers.
Student-Athlete Development
Character Development: Promote the values of teamwork, commitment, discipline, respect, academic excellence, and sportsmanship.
Academics: Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes and ensure compliance with academic eligibility standards.
Community Engagement: Represent the school with professionalism and integrity at all times, both on and off the mat.
Qualifications & Requirements
Prior coaching experience, preferably at the high school or competitive club level, with a strong emphasis on competitive cheer.
Demonstrated proficiency in teaching and spotting advanced competitive cheerleading skills
Current certification or willingness to obtain certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED, coaching coursework, annual mandatory training
Ability to obtain OSPRA Fingerprint Clearance
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
