About the Department

Our centralized team supports the entire Department by developing and maintaining a range of systems, including internal and public-facing solutions. We handle licensing and case management systems, centralized eCommerce and document management platforms, and a content management system for the Department’s website.

The incumbent will:
  • Manage IT projects for the department, including contracted projects and special projects.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met and deliverables are tracked effectively. 
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. 
  • Work closely with team members to develop new department standards, services, policies, and procedures. 
  • Facilitate communication between team members, stakeholders, and other departments to ensure project success.
  • Leading development projects, coordinating both technical and business resources.
  • Supervising a team of programmers, providing administrative support and mentoring.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is primarily teleworked and is based out of Anchorage or Juneau. 

Our division has set up a “hoteling” space for staff who need/want to work in the office. This scheduled space provides for a cubicle with monitors and a docking station for your laptop. 

We have office space in both Anchorage or Juneau. The work environment is friendly, professional, and collaborative.

Who we are looking for:
  • Systems Analysis/Design: Ability to interview business experts to determine processes and needs and design a system to implement those process/solve
  • Project Management: Experience in managing IT projects, including planning, execution, and completion. 
  • Technical Writing: Effectively documents requirements, solutions, and processes. Adjusts writing for a variety of audiences (e.g., technical, business, management, etc.)
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Ability to coordinate project priorities and deliverables, ensuring effective collaboration among team members.
  • Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.

Position Duties

Six years of computer programming experience, of which, at least two years were at the project leader or systems design level. This is equivalent to an Analyst/Programmer 4 with the State of Alaska. Two years of experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer information management support specialty. The specialized experience may be gained concurrently.

Substitution:

A bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for one year of the required experience. An associate's degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems may substitute for nine months of the required experience in a specialty area. There is no substitute for the systems analysis and design or project leadership experience.

Special Note: 

An applicant who is considered under the Substitution above qualifies to apply for this job class IF the applicable coursework is completed within three (3) months of hire. Under this option, an applicant may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of completion will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Individual positions at each level in this class series may require expertise in a particular area of programming or analysis. Recruitment and selection will be on the basis of these requirements.

For some positions in these job classes, a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.

SPECIAL NOTICE
This position requires access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) systems and will require a  background check.

CLASSIFICATION STUDY NOTICE
This position is currently under review as part of the IT study; therefore, the title and/or pay range currently assigned may be subject to change upon implementation of this class study.  

SALARY INFORMATION
Juneau, Alaska bi-weekly salary amount: $3964.80
Anchorage, Alaska bi-weekly salary amount: $3776.00
