Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to support the delivery of recreational programs and services by assisting with program development and facilitation, activity setup, participant engagement, and facility maintenance.
This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Delivers courteous, solution-oriented customer service; responds to inquiries and resolves minor concerns to ensure a positive patron experience.
Provides technical support and instruction on equipment and facility usage.
Assists with marketing and outreach, including distributing promotional materials and supporting community engagement efforts.
Plans and organizes inclusive recreational activities, classes, and events for participants of all ages and abilities.
Independently leads recreational programs, ensuring safety and quality.
Supports the development and execution of program schedules, activity plans, and event logistics.
Prepares activity areas, sets up equipment and supplies, and ensures proper cleanup and storage.
Collaborates with staff to ensure effective program delivery.
Assists with facility operations, including opening/closing procedures and general upkeep.
Reports maintenance needs, assists with room setups, and ensures facility cleanliness.
Performs routine clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and maintaining attendance records.
Engages participants to foster involvement, ensure safety, and promote an inclusive environment.
Monitors program areas for compliance with safety procedures and facility policies.
Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associates Degree in Recreation, Education, Sports Administration, Business, Public Affairs, Social Services, or related discipline.
OR Two (2) years of recreation, physical fitness, education, social services.
OTHER MINIMUMS:
Must be available to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and mandatory overtime. Community centers are typically open Monday through Saturday until 8:00 pm.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
CPR/AED/First Aid or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all the time including exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
