The Systems Architect holds a pivotal position in shaping architectural designs and overseeing the technological trajectory of sensor systems crucial for advancing Anton Paar’s analytical laboratory instrumentation. Key duties and responsibilities of the Systems Architect encompass: 

  • Architectural Planning: Articulating the architectural structure by decomposing the system into constituent components, specifying interactions and interfaces between components, and making informed choices about the technologies and resources to be employed in the design.
  • Functional Performance: Grasping the operational requirements of systems, evaluating their capacity to withstand stress, and determining the necessary elements for robust system designs.
  • Business Alignment: Factoring in the organization's strategic goals, scale, financial constraints, and available resources to determine the type of system required to meet these objectives.

The Impact You'll Make: 

As a Systems Architect, you'll be a creative thinker adept at managing multiple projects within established timelines. Your role will involve active collaboration with cross-functional teams within the organization to fine-tune product requirements. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional platform development and product infrastructure teams to define requirements for new instruments and systems. 
  • Formulating high-level design and system specifications with a keen focus on seamless system integration and feasibility. 
  • Engaging with both hardware and software aspects in tasks such as instrument setup, technical R&D, process enhancement, and long-term system planning.
  • Assisting the project manager in supervising development teams to ensure alignment with the initial design.
  • Contributing to the formulation and mapping of long-term technical strategic directions. 
  • Evaluating the current environment to identify critical deficiencies and proposing solutions for enhancement.
  • Thoroughly documenting essential system components, interfaces, infrastructure, and process flows while ensuring documentation is kept up-to-date with design changes.
  • Serving as a Subject Matter Expert in platform development and product infrastructure. 
  • Resolving complex issues and coordinating meetings when required to find solutions for seemingly insurmountable challenges. 
  • Safeguarding and preserving the organization's intellectual property. 
  • Analyzing industry and technical trends to identify their impact on the existing architecture. 
  • Assessing new technologies for potential application in our platform. 
  • Providing recommendations for hardware systems and software usage. 
  • May occasionally require domestic or international travel (less than 5%).
  • Undertaking any additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

The Systems Architect typically needs a combination of education, training, certifications and skills. This role requires the following:

  • MS in Engineering, Physical Sciences or Mathematics
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in product development
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering or physics
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a diverse team 
  • Strong ability to manage projects and deliver work assignments on time, within budget and at top quality
  • Demonstrated experience generating technical documentation such as requirements, specifications, engineering report, plans and procedures
  • Significant knowledge with requirements management software tools

 

Preferred skills include:

  • PhD in Engineering, Physical Sciences or Mathematics
  • Experience in product or instrument development
  • Experience in requirements management and test plan development
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in precision instrumentation design
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher

This role is an individual contributor who is a leader and/or member of multiple teams and is closely aligned with Engineering and Product Development teams.

What We Do:

 Anton Paar QuantaTec manufactures instruments for characterization of powders and porous materials using techniques like physisorption, chemisorption, gas pycnometry, mercury intrusion porosimetry, capillary flow porometry amongst others.

 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, observe, communicate and handle items such as computers, machinery and other equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

 

Position requires the ability to obtain a Passport for international travel.
