About the Department
Assists Controller and Fiscal Service Office in performing general accounting and purchasing functions and records maintenance in accordance with established procedures and required federal guidelines.
Will be hired as Accounting Technician II or III depending on experience
Tech II Min wage: $19.46 - $23.11Tech III Min wage: $20.43 - $24.26
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Specific tasks and areas of responsibility will be assigned to individuals by the Controller in order to maintain appropriate separation of duties and workloads.
- Processes accounts payable and receivable in accordance with established procedures; receives information from service departments, or generates reports for the creation of invoices.
- Creates external (including monthly tuition and bookstore charges for sponsored students according to agencies specifications) and internal invoices (including mileage, postage, and cafeteria charges).
- Records receipt of payments for electronic transactions and checks with appropriate documentation and accounting codes.
- Communicates with internal and external contacts regarding payment issues.
- Audits satellite cash boxes to assure proper fiscal accountability.
- Creates bank deposits and scans checks resulting from the daily activities of College departments.
- Maintains security of assigned cash; maintains appropriate inventory of cash as needed to supply various cash boxes.
- Tracks, receives and sends reminders for outstanding invoices until payment is made or received.
- Prepares reports of invoices, reviews cash receipt items and assures proper account posting.
- Assists in accounting for general fixed assets; performs inventory audits, tracks moves, setup and tag new assets, and coordinates with staff regarding the disposal of assets.
- Assists Purchasing Agent with surplus property disposal.
- Reviews purchasing card transactions to ensure college policy and the Utah State Procurement Code is adhered to.
- Processes petty cash transactions.
- May assist with Davis Tech Foundation in tracking and recording transactions.
- Cross trains to provide back-up coverage for accounts payable/receivable duties or other fiscal service responsibilities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Accounting Technician II
- Graduation from High School or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of technical training in cash handling, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, and general accounting principals.
- Proficient in electronic spreadsheets and word processing.
- 10 key proficiency, typing 40 wpm and operation of various types of office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, develop effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, students, and the public
- Work independently and manage work assignments in a high interpersonal contact environment, deal effectively with stress caused by work load and time deadlines.
- Graduation from High School or equivalent.
- Eight (8) years of technical training in cash handling, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, and general accounting principals. Equivalent combination of education/experience considered.
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) accounting systems or QuickBooks.
- Proficient in electronic spreadsheets and word processing.
- 10 key proficiency, typing 40 wpm, high math proficiencies, and operation of various types of office equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, develop effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, students, and the public
- Work independently and manage work assignments in a high interpersonal contact environment, deal effectively with stress caused by work load and time deadlines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Generally light office work.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements with hands, sitting, and standing.
