Preferred Qualifications: Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or GED and four years’ experience working as a contractor. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Applicants without teaching experience, if hired, must complete teacher training programs through the state CATE program and go through in-district training.

Job Title:       Building Construction Teacher
Supervisor:    Reports to Building Principal
Terms of Employment:        190 Days/Positive Pay

Job Summary:
To provide carpentry projects in a manner that promotes career readiness in the carpentry field and subsequent related fields so that students may earn a field certification in at least one the following areas: carpentry, electrical, or plumbing.

Essential Duties

Create lessons that will teach students both basic and advanced knowledge that will help students pass the NCCER certification test.
Create lessons that will teach students career readiness and employability skills.
Create lessons that will teach students career skills in related carpentry skill areas such as masonry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC.
Teach students general and tool safety skills related to the career field.
Build relationships between colleges, business partners, families and community members.
Foster effective communication with parents and/or guardians.
Commit to personal and professional growth.
Be responsible for the care and welfare of the school and student body.
Provide for the care and protection of school property.
Carry out the policies, rules and regulations of Horry County Schools and other responsibilities as directed by the principal.

Carry out other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

Certification as required by the state of South Carolina in the field of assignment.
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED and four years’ experience working as a contractor Background in Career and Technology Education preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated proficiency in use of technology

Physical Requirements

Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
