Position Summary:
Evapco is seeking applicants for a full-time Crane Operator position at our Taneytown, Maryland location. The Crane Operator will work under general supervision to safely operate mobile cranes for lifting, moving, and positioning materials and equipment throughout the facility and storage yard primarily. In addition to operating the mobile crane, the position will operate overhead cranes as needed. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, mathematical accuracy for calculating loads and boom angles, and strict adherence to safety and operational procedures. Candidates must demonstrate attention to detail, situational awareness, and a commitment to maintaining equipment and a safe work environment. Due to the cyclical nature of production, the need for crane operation may fluctuate. During periods of lower crane demand, the Crane Operator will be expected to assist in other areas of the shop as needed.

 

Job Description:

  • Operate mobile and overhead cranes to move, position, and place equipment/materials as required.
  • Calculate loads, boom angles, and lifting capacities to ensure safe operation.
  • Perform daily inspections and preventative maintenance on crane equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate operation and maintenance logs.
  • Assist with rigging and material movement as needed to support production.
  • Communicate effectively with signal persons, riggers, and supervisors to ensure safe load handling.
  • Attend training and certification classes as required to obtain or maintain NCCCO certification.
  • Perform other duties and assist in other areas of the facility as needed.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Current NCCCO Crane Operator Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Proven ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Strong math skills, including the ability to calculate loads, weights, and boom angles.
  • General mechanical knowledge and ability to perform routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Excellent attention to detail and situational awareness to ensure the safety of self and others.
  • Ability to accurately complete and maintain required documentation and records.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic, with consistent attendance.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must pass visual acuity and physical exam as required for certification.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver's license
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Manufacturing and outdoor environments.
  • Continuous standing, walking, squatting, bending, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more with assistance (two-person lift or mechanical aid).
  • Ability to move and position dunnage and heavy materials safely.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Shift work, Monday through Friday with possible as needed weekend/off shift
