This is a permanent full-time position that will commence as soon as possible.
Role Overview: The Wellness Promoter is responsible for delivering mental health programming to schools to support healthy children and youth. This position works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to enhance capacity to meet the objectives of Mental Health initiatives by developing and delivering developmentally appropriate programming to children, youth, and families within school and classroom settings.
What you will do:
Work under the direction of the Student Services Coordinator and MHCB Coordinator to support the Response to Intervention framework focused on developing, implementing, and monitoring interventions and strategies that meet the social, emotional, behavioural, and learning needs of students.
Develop, plan, and promote programs, activities, and events for students as part of a mental health action plan, mental health wellness fairs and camps, large group presentations, peer mentorship, and student committee development.
Delivers programming that responds to the identified needs of students and schools including:
Support instructional programming by creating mental health resources and modules that align with curricular outcomes.
Support Social Emotional Learning (CASEL framework) through Tier One wellness menus.
Deliver awareness and prevention programming and tools for teachers, parents, and community partners to identify at-risk students and raise awareness of early intervention programming.
Support, maintain, and contribute to School, Division, and Ministry Mental Health and Wellness plans.
Assists in creating, delivering, and analyzing survey and other assessment data and accountability reports.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, school staff, school community councils, First Nations, and outside agencies to strengthen family-school-community partnerships related to mental health topics.
Build the capacity of teachers, administrators, and staff using a variety of proactive, innovative, and effective professional development delivery techniques, including collegial mentoring and coaching, professional reference materials, and presenting at professional learning events at the school and system levels.
Perform other duties as may be required or assigned by Student Services Coordinator or MHCB Coordinator.
What will make you successful:
Diploma in a human service-related field (i.e.: Mental Health and Addictions Counselling, Youth Care Worker, Child and Youth Care Counsellor, Social Work Diploma).
Experience working in student-focused services such as mental health.
Working knowledge of client centered mental health and addictions interventions, practice methods and professional skills.
Key presentation and interpersonal skills to effectively engage a wide range of audiences.
Demonstrated ability to deliver culturally responsive services to a diverse group of clients.
Time management and organizational skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills utilizing strengths-based practices and solution focused interactions.
Strong communication and reporting skills, both verbally and in written form.
Ability to engage community resources, treatment centers, social services networks, non-profit organizations, and community businesses.
Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.
What you can expect:
Hourly rate: $37.82.
