Job purpose
The Driver Sales position is responsible for building and maintaining strong customer relationships while driving sales growth within an assigned territory. This role combines product delivery with account management and business development responsibilities. Employees in this position are expected to represent Tryon Distributing with professionalism, reliability, and in-depth knowledge of our portfolio, instilling confidence in both our customers and the brands we represent.
Duties and responsibilities
- Initiate, negotiate, and close sales contracts and agreements
- Troubleshoot customer issues and provide prompt, effective resolutions
- Communicate with customers regarding pricing, promotions, shipping dates, and any anticipated delays
- Follow up with customers to ensure accurate and timely delivery of orders
- Enter and edit orders within required timeframes
- Deliver Tryon products to customers within the designated territory
- Educate and train customers in the company’s portfolio of products
- Maintain proper inventory levels and ensure accurate product rotation at customer accounts
- Perform driver safety checks and follow all DOT and company safety procedures
- Handle payments and deposits responsibly and in compliance with company policies
- Balance time effectively, spending approximately 60% of the workday on the road and 40% in customer accounts
- Responsible for order writing, inventory maintenance, and delivery execution for all assigned accounts
- Available to work evenings and nights within the assigned territory as needed
- Attend all required sales meetings and company training
Qualifications
REQUIRED
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Excellent customer service skills
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task accurately with minimal errors
- Must be a team player and work well under minimal supervision
- Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including hot and cold environments
- Ability to drive safely in all types of weather and road conditions
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs
- Must be able to recognize colors, sizes, and types of products with ease
- Must be able to accurately count, add, and subtract without the use of a calculator
PREFERRED
•High school diploma or GED
• Previous sales, merchandising, or pull-up experience
• Previous food service or distribution experience
• Familiarity with wine, beer, and the Tryon portfolio
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience operating material handling equipment (e.g., hand truck, dolly, pallet jack)
Working conditions
The employee will perform work in the following areas:
• Warehouse dock
• In vehicle while in route to customer locations
• At customer locations
The noise level in these areas is generally moderate.
Physical requirements
• Physical Activity:

o Standing and walking (continual, 5–8 hrs/day)
o Driving, other than to/from work (occasional, 1–4 hrs/day)
o Repetitive hand motion and fine hand motor skills (frequent, 3–5 hrs/day)

o Bending, twisting, kneeling, climbing, reaching, stretching, lifting, and squatting (occasional to frequent, 1–5 hrs/day)
• Lifting Frequency and Weight:
o Regularly lifts up to 10–50 lbs
o Occasionally lifts up to 75 lbs
o Rarely lifts up to 140 lbs depending on operational needs
o Frequency ranges from occasional (1–10 loads/hr) to continual (15+ loads/hr)
• Expectations:
o Maintain proper lifting posture and follow all safe work practices
o Must be physically capable of performing repetitive tasks in warehouse or delivery environments
