Position Title: CLIMB BHP - Educational Technician III

SUMMARY: Join an innovative team of educators supporting students with special needs in a unique and specialized setting attached to a community school. To meet the needs of students with complex learning and developmental needs, Lewiston Schools has established a multidisciplinary intensive education program designed to support students with individualized programming while encouraging them to benefit from their peers and offer access to naturalistic teaching settings.
This role is part of a highly supported team building on a strong programmatic structure for all classrooms with opportunities to individualize and innovate. The Instructional Specialist BHPs will support the special educator in developing/implementing large and small group instruction, facilitating a flexible class environment favorable to learning and personal independence; meaningful social interaction with peers; students to strengthen social, executive functioning, and foundational learning skills needed for success in their elementary grade education. This role offers many opportunities for leadership within the BHP team and collaboration across disciplines in order to best help students generalize their learning across settings.
Hourly Pay/Salary Range: $29.49 - $33.19
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned (see program handbook)
Including group and/or individualized: visual supports, adaptive materials, schedules, portfolios, curriculum and theme activities.
Facilitate 1:1, 1:2 and small group instruction while meeting the needs of complex learners.
This includes all academic, behavioral and functional skill instruction, generalization and maintenance. This would also include other areas throughout a student's day such as: lunch, recess, hallway transitions, social opportunities with peers as well as transportation.
Implement and follow individualized lesson plans, Positive Behavior Support Plans and/or Individualized Crisis Behavior Management Plans.
Assist with setup of classroom, individual student area and program group areas.
BHP direct services in the program, by nature, require a staff’s constant attention. This includes but is not limited to:
Following precautions set forth in PBSP and by Sped / BCBA/Clinician direction
Keeping calm in unforeseen circumstances being thoughtful of variables that may, or may not maintain challenging behavior.
Being mindful of clothing choice worn on a daily basis (i.e. employees must wear
closed-toe shoes)
Refraining from cell phone use, except during personal breaks.
Expectation to attend the Professional Development sessions on Wednesdays after the scheduled shift.
COURSE OF YEAR & SCHEDULE:
This is a full time role working a program-specific calendar aligned to Lewiston Public School’s academic year with 6 weeks of full time summer services as well as additional summer professional learning days.
