Intern - Health & Safety

The Safety department of MP Systems, Inc. is seeking aSafety Intern to help support our growing company. The Safety Intern will assist the team toreview, evaluate, and analyze work environments and project safety.  Theywill help to design, modify, and coordinate safety programs and procedures tocontrol, eliminate, and prevent injury.  The goal of the internship is togain hands-on experience in the construction industry, and encourage hazardrecognition to become incident and injury free.
This position is a full-time yearlong internship requiring40 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Conduct Jobsite Visits & Safety Audits:

  • Visit various jobsites with a member of the Safety Team by the request of a manager or at random.  Learn how to interact with the field staff and leadership.  Identify various compliance and safety issues, and encourage hazard recognition to support the company to “0” injuries. Perform independently once comfortable.

Communication:

  • Respond as a resource of information to employee questions and issues regarding safety
  • Assist the Safety Team in developing topics for Branch safety meetings and monthly safety talks
  • Participate in accident investigations and review meetings to determine and communicate root causes for future prevention

Employee Training:

  • Observe the Safety Team in conducting weekly Safety Orientations to new employees.  Conduct independently once comfortable.
  • Complete train-the-trainer courses and provide on the job training to employees as requested in the areas of Aerial Lift, Forklift, etc.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, construction emphasis preferred
  • Previous internship or work experience involving safety preferred
  • Strong personal integrity and adherence to our company values
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to work in partnership with others
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to reason and think logically in problem-solving
  • Detail-oriented individual with ability to prioritize and organize work for ensured follow-through
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft programs
  • Must be a team player and display solid work ethic

Work Environment:

  • Office environment requiring sitting and standing. 
  • Regular travel to various construction sites is essential, exposing employee to outdoor elements, noise and the need to stand and walk.
