COMPENSATION
Civil Engineer Intern: $68,709
RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent(s) will be responsible for, as part of Structural Inspection group, meeting external and internal inspection mandates to inspect concrete and steel to ensure that the system infrastructure is safe for use. Duties will include: comprehensive, up-close inspection of various NYCT structure types; maintaining a status and recommended action database; analysis of defects; preparation of designs and repair plans; supervision of testing on-site; preparation of recommendations for alterations or repairs, analyzing report data, performing cost estimates and preparing scopes of work and project profiles for inclusion in repair work with in-house forces, vendor contracts and/ or capital programs in the Infrastructure Engineering subdivision; giving technical guidance and administrative direction to Subway Nights Structural Inspection Program to comply with mandated inspections of Subway Tunnels, Under river Tubes, Retaining Walls, and Underground Stations, per Structural Inspection Policy, provide technical training to subway inspection teams to improve structural inspections. Additional duties will include: attending planning, design and field meetings to represent the Division; review of Master Plans, Scopes of Work, Structural Design and Calculations, including the preparation of drawings, sketches and calculations for repairs, and new construction; performing final inspections of completed work and generating punch lists; providing field support to in-house forces and capital project supervision; researching existing conditions, recording drawings and files, new and emerging technologies. Incumbent(s) will respond to trouble calls and emergencies relating to structural conditions on a 24 hour/7daysa week basis, provide clear and concise structural evaluation reports to management and maybe working in the field or in the back office, and will also be asked to rotate days per department needs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering technology and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
DESIRED SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of MS Office suite and internet and mobile applications, as well as MicroStation and the EAM database.
Knowledge of structural inspection of concrete and steel.
Ability to read and write technical drawings and correspondence.
In-depth knowledge of construction design and code issues covering multiple city agencies.
SELECTION METHOD
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
