The Program in Education at Barnard College serves undergraduate students across all of Columbia University’s programs. Students can choose to major or minor in Education Studies, or obtain NYS teacher certification through our Urban Teaching Minor. Preferred areas of specialization within urban education include: bilingual and multilingual education, special education, multicultural education, and urban education reform.
The Lecturer position enables opportunities for review and renewal at the 3rd year and promotion at the 7th year of service (to Senior Lecturer).
Lecturers typically teach a 3-3 load. The teaching load for this position is 3-2, with one course release to serve as a Field Placement Coordinator. Teaching expectations include our Educational Foundations course; courses in our Urban Teaching track (for example, Multicultural Pedagogies; K-12 Literacy; Student Teaching Supervision; and/or a pedagogical electives); and developing courses for our Educational Studies major in their area of research expertise.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have an earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) in education with a focus on urban education. Candidates must have K-12 teaching experience. Because we are a NYC urban education program, preference will be given to candidates with experience in NYC public schools. A focus on and knowledge of the organizations that support and serve NYC public schools would also be beneficial.

Salary: $88,000 - $94,000
