TITLE: Environmental & Energy Specialist

POSTION TYPE: SPEC

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:

  1. High School Diploma, GED or HiSet
  2. Five years of experience as an Energy and/or EnvironmentalManager
  3. Knowledge of safety and environmental issues, energy conservation, and indoor air quality
  4. Understanding of HVAC systems and boiler operations
  5. Knowledge of construction practices. Ability to read and use mechanicaldrawings
  6. Proficiency in MS Office, database development, and designsoftware
  7. Ability to prioritize and meet multiple work load deadlines
  8. Ability to perform training for district staff
  9. Strong oral and written communication skills
  10. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the previous five years
  11. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills

Desired:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, plant planning, or architectural engineering

BASIC FUNCTION:

Plan, organize, and direct the district’s environmental and energy programs to ensure a safe environment for all students and staff. Serve as the district asbestos program manager. Manage and solve Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) activities. Provide guidance on maximum optimization of energy resources. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the Facility Services department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide oversight of district’s environmental programs to include: air permitting, asbestos, hazardous waste management, indoor air quality (IAQ), radon, lead, SARA Reporting, SPCC, storm water, and underground storage tanks (UST).
  2. Ensure that all district facilities conform to federal, state and city laws and requirements.
  3. Ensure environmental functions are performed in accordance with approved policies and
  4. Develop energy and environmental specifications for materials, supplies, and tools used by district personnel.
  5. Assist in the development of the district’s energy conservation program including requests for
  6. Perform trend analysis on the district’s energy usage and investigate
  7. Provide training to district staff on energy conservation
  8. Perform inspections of building HVAC systems during peak and off peak hours to ensure equipment is operating at predetermined set
  9. Evaluate and recommend energy management options for building
  10. Forecast needs, conditions, and availability of resources to meet the district’s financial objectives and participate in planning, design, and construction of energy conservation
  11. Encourage energy conservation by designing energy and environmental conservation training and assist in the development of written
  12. Provide leadership and guidance for the establishment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of district environmental and energy conservation
  13. Manage the District’s DDC (Direct Digital Control) system.
  14. Serve as a construction project consultant and assists with environmental and energy
  15. Assist in the development of board agenda items and make presentations to the board as
  16. Attend work on a prompt and regular

  18. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  19. Assist with other duties as assigned.

Occasional: Standing, walking, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, climbing stairs, lifting (25lbs) carrying (20ft)

Constant: Manual dexterity tasks: telephone, computer, other

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Frequent: Inside, outside, extremes of temperatures/humidity

Hazards: Moving vehicles, noise, and machinery at work sites.

*Extremes of weather when supervising at work sites or

investigating energy issues. Primary work space is in an air conditioned office.
