Job Summary: The Facilities Maintenance Technician supports the educational process by performing a wide range of skilled maintenance duties. Key responsibilities include completing assigned work orders, carrying out repairs and services across areas like carpentry, plumbing, electrical, locks, and alarms, and ensuring the necessary tools and materials are available on-site.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Analyzes blue prints, schematics, and drawings for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
  • Attends meetings for the purpose to maintain and upgrade job knowledge, skills and resolutions to safety issues. 
  • Estimates labor and material to obtain materials and assigns tasks, ensuring job completion. 
  • Fabricates equipment parts to meet specialty needs and/or replace unavailable parts
  • Informs personnel about procedures and/or work order status to provide information for decision-making, appropriate action, and compliance with building and safety regulations. 
  • Installs a wide variety of materials (e.g. carpet, tile, roofing, cabinets, drywall, plumbing, insulation, glass, electrical, masonry, locking systems) to provide enhancements and/or upgrades.
  • Maintains tools and equipment to ensure availability and that they are in safe operating conditions.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance to ensure the ongoing function of facilities.
  • Performs a variety of skilled trade functions (e.g. plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, locking systems, bathroom fixtures) to complete projects within established timeframes.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs) to document activities and/or convey information.
  • Transports a variety of tolls, equipment, and supplies to ensure the availability of materials required at job site.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS


Required (Education & Experience)

  • Job related experience is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Driver’s License & Evidence of Insurability
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
  • IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Position Type & Work Schedule: (Full-time or Part-time, normal daily hours, months per year)

 

  • Full-time, 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday

 

  • 12 months
  • May need to work for emergency situations including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (required to do the job)

  • This job requires a diverse set of technical skills to perform multiple tasks, with the potential need to upgrade skills to adapt to changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies include: skilled maintenance work in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades; proficient and safe use of hand and power tools; operation of various equipment and machinery such as saws, sanders, drills and forklifts; and driving motor vehicles as needed.
  • This job requires relevant knowledge, such as algebra, reading technical information, composing documents, and facilitating discussions to analyze situations, define issues, and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies include: methods, practices, equipment, and tools used in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades; health and safety regulations; proper storage of equipment, materials, and supplies; and requirements for maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • This job demands certain abilities, such as scheduling activities, gathering and organizing data, and operating equipment using standardized methods. Flexibility is required to work collaboratively, utilize defined processes, and use a variety of job-related equipment. Problem-solving skills are needed to identify issues, create action plans, interpret guidelines, and address equipment-related challenges. Specific ability-based competencies include: following oral and written instructions, maintaining effective working relationships, analyzing situations, and keeping routine records. 
  • This role involves working under close supervision, following standardized procedures, and providing information or advice to others. It also requires operating within a set budget and frequently utilizing resources from other departments to carry out the job’s functions. Additionally, there are ongoing opportunities to influence the organization's service delivery. 

 

Work Conditions:

  • This job requires significant physical demands, including heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, as well as extensive climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Fine finger dexterity is also necessary. The work involves 5% sitting, 80% walking, and 15% standing, often in temperature extremes and conditions with risk of injury or illness.
