This role will support the Philadelphia site by overseeing day-to-day Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities, while also providing support as needed with the operations and maintenance of the facility. The individual will develop and deploy a subset of the HSE Management System at the site level in collaboration with the Site Facilities Manager. This hybrid role will play a key part in ensuring both site safety and facilities operations are integrated and efficient. The individual will also serve as a key stakeholder in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects and initiatives, ensuring that both HSE and Facilities objectives are aligned with sustainability and community goals.
Primary Duties
- Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards, maintaining alignment with both HSE guidelines and facilities management best practices.
- Drives implementation of safety and environmental procedures at the Philadelphia site, collaborating with other HSE and facilities teams within bioMerieux, Inc. to ensure a well-integrated approach to safety and facilities management.
- Coordinates and implements Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects and initiatives.
- Maintain ISO regulated environment in the Biotechnology/Diagnostics Industry, ensuring both HSE processes and facilities operations comply with relevant standards.
- Collaborates with the Site Facilities leadership to develop and deploy HSE and Facilities processes, including facility inspections, maintenance planning, and compliance tracking.
- Assists in the delivery of safety training sessions, maintains safety documentation and supports emergency preparedness activities such as maintenance protocols, equipment usage, and safety measures.
- Tracks and communicates safety progress milestones of the HSE and facilities system development at the site level, ensuring alignment between safety goals and facility management objectives.
- Performs safety inspections, risk assessments, job safety analyses, and environmental assessments. Prepares reports and summaries for senior staff review.
- Assists in developing and implementing processes for preventative maintenance, equipment commissioning, and space utilization.
- Assist with creating job plans for on-site preventative maintenance activities.
- Develop safety standards for the site including, but not limited to, lock out tag out, contractor safety, electrical safety, etc.
- Compile and report HSE metrics while also tracking key facilities metrics such as maintenance completion, equipment uptime, and energy consumption.
- Leads continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance both safety performance and facility operations, fostering a culture of proactive maintenance and environmental stewardship.
- Work with outside vendors and contractors and assist with key control and business personal property as directed.
- Support general facilities activities as required, and able to work from drawings, email, electronic systems and/or verbal instructions using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Preform facilities related administrative and clerical task as assigned.
- Support new equipment procurement user requirement specifications and commissioning activities, coordinating with both HSE and facilities teams to ensure safety and operational readiness.
- Support ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 Certification Audits and associated activities.

Minimum Training, Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related field. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- 2+ years of HSE or related field technical experience required.
- Experience within an ISO 14001 / 45001 certified organization preferred.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement preferred.
- Experience with CSR initiatives preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of US compliance regulations including DOT/OSHA/EPA/NFPA preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and experience working within an ISO 14001 & 45001 certified organization preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of US compliance regulations including DOT/OSHA/EPA/NFPA
- Excellent communication skills- ability to influence, educate and train on HSE Procedures
- Ability to read and interpret technical literature and stay abreast of changing regulatory landscape;
- Ability to develop a strategy to determine action plans for risk reduction
- Ability to review the regulatory landscape to identify and mitigate non-compliant conditions
- Project Management and Continuous Improvement experience preferred.
- Demonstrated computer skills: Microsoft Suite Software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
- Excellent documentation and communication skills (written & verbal).
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps and the like.
- Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
- Abilitiy to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
