Description: Ellington Middle School is seeking a dynamic Long Term Substitute Academic Literacy teacher, with a background in teaching non-fiction reading and writing, for the entirety of the 2025-2026 school year.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a valid CT teaching certificate in 7-12 Language Arts or 7-12 Social Studies. A state and national criminal check will be required, as well as a DCF background check.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Planning effective lessons, instructional materials, and assessments
- Creating a positive and engaging classroom environment
- Collaborating to develop effective lessons and units of study
- Participating in professional growth activities.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be prepared to teach Academic Literacy (non-fiction reading and writing) to middle school students
- Understand how to build positive relationships with middle school students
- Understand best practices for teaching
