Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the school principal, the teacher will facilitate student success and growth in academic, social/emotional, and behavioral skills in order for children to learn, cope, manage and thrive by: implementing district approved curriculum, utilizing trauma informed practices in a safe and flexible environment, ongoing collection and analysis of data to inform instruction and student support services, and supporting family engagement around student learning.
Essential Functions
Develops and administers elementary school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction
Utilizes trauma informed education practices
Implements behavior support plans
Monitors and documents daily progress of all children in the classroom and takes appropriate actions to increase each child’s progress
Implements social/emotional learning curriculum with fidelity
Develops differentiated lesson plans and other activities which stimulate and encourage the educational and social development of each child
Actively participates in student placement and transition conferences
Assists in developing individualized Student Action Plans (SAP)
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws
Assists administration in implementing district policies and guidelines that govern student behavior and safety
Maintains an orderly and safe classroom environment
Collaborates with school and district personnel to ensure student success is maximized
Supports family engagement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
Partners with school counseling services, mental health providers, behavioral specialists, and other support staff in order to positively affect student success
Attends required staff and district meetings including PLC meetings
Participates in school wide events
Completes and participates in required building and district professional development activities

Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone
Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with students who have significant behavioral needs
Successful experience in supporting students with significant behavioral needs
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with parents and education professionals
Ability to handle emotionally charged situations
Physical stamina and agility required to care for active children
Knowledge of trauma informed education practices
Works in standard office and school building environments
Knowledge and expertise in current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles
Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
Ability to organize and coordinate work
Ability to assign classroom responsibilities among designated paraprofessionals and ensure they are working toward student targets
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in a public school setting
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
May occasionally be required to provide student behavior support by using appropriate restraint or seclusion techniques - for student safety purposes only
May occasionally be required to provide physical assistance to students in emergency evacuation or lockdown procedures
Must be capable of safely traversing all assigned areas of the school facility
Certification/License
Arkansas State Certification as a Teacher
Arkansas State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred
Arkansas State Certification in Special Education preferred
Education Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels
Successful prior experience with students with significant behavioral needs preferred
Successful prior teaching experience in an alternative learning setting preferred
Successful experience in trauma informed education preferred
