Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • The Junior Designer Construction Shop Operations, working within the Construction organization, is responsible for coordinating design work with Designers from other disciplines, Engineers, shop personnel, and station personnel. Additionally, the role involves providing design field support during construction activities. The responsibilities include performing structural design calculations and creating shop drawings for new and existing building modifications, as well as station upgrades such as equipment foundations, sitework, and structural steel framing. The Junior Designer will also complete associated structural and/or site calculations related to these designs. Occasionally, this position requires the creation of conceptual and/or construction sketches, as-builts, test-pit requests, and sub-surface drawing packages.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 4 years
  • Design Work Experience or
  • Associate's Degree In Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Civil Engineering (from an ABET accredited University
  • Engineering In Training Certificataion
Relevant Work Experience
  • The candidate must have a high computer proficiency with the ability to perform drafting and design in Computer aided design programs such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, Tekla and Advance Steel. Applicant will be able to read and prepare civil, structural, and machine design including plans, sections, and details. They will have a working knowledge of mechanical, civil, structural, and architectural design issues associated with machine components, substation, generation station, or large infrastructure design. The candidate will have the ability to read and interpret design and building codes, regulations, and standards. Knowledge of 3D design and ability to utilize current computer technologies to render 3D designs is desirable. Experience with AutoCAD Inventor is desirable. Required
  • Will be dedicated, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and on teams. Will have flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Will have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with personnel on all levels. Required
  • JR. Designer Procurement and Contracts -This specialization requires a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Engineering Science or another Engineering discipline. -In lieu of an Associates Degree, a High School Degree (or GED equivalent) and four (4) years of equivalent and relevant design work experience will be accepted. Required

  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Will sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for entire shift.
  • All applicants will need pass all required placement exams.
  • Will be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Will have excellent manual dexterity and be able to use hands for entire shift.
  • Will stand to operate office equipment or review hard copy drawings for entire shift.
