The Nurse Educator performs the functions of an educator, facilitator, change agent, leader, advisor and resource in the area of expertise. The Nurse Educator will participate in the development and evaluation of orientation/onboarding, staff development, and continuing educational programs. The Nurse Educator will collaborate at all levels of nursing to contribute to the professional development of others, act as a mentor, and provide clinical coaching. The Nurse Educator in collaboration with the Nursing Leadership Team(s) will develop educational activities to address practice gaps which may include licensed and non-licensed healthcare.
Responsibilities:- Develops and initiates orientation/onboarding process and continuous staff development programs.
- Collaborates and assists the nursing administrative and leadership staff in identifying, outlining, implementing and maintaining the standards of nursing practice.
- Collaborates with the nursing administrative and leadership staff in identifying and documenting the learning needs of the nursing staff concerning nursing practice.
- Maintains knowledge/clinical expertise by continual review of current literature/research and products that impact nursing practice and patient care outcomes.
- Provides clinical supervision, coaching or mentoring to nursing staff based on individualized learning needs assessment, implementation, and evaluation of learner needs & outcomes.
- Establishes methods to evaluate learning and competency plan for clinical nursing staff.
- Analyzes and communicates the impact of content, teaching methods, and evaluation strategies with other educators and leadership.
- Demonstrates knowledge of theories used in staff development and education.
- Designs, develops, and organizes educational resources aimed to support the learning needs of the nursing staff.
- Conducts classes/training programs as necessary.
- Evaluates staff for clinical competency and participates in remediation when necessary.
- Serves as a clinical and educational resource in the use of electronic record system for deficiencies in documentation. Serves as a role model and facilitator for staff/other departments.
- Maintains system of records related to clinical educational programs including in-services, onboarding/orientation, staff development, and educational activities.
- Engages learners, nurse managers, and other identified key players in data collection and evaluation of learner needs and outcomes.
- Acts in a leadership role to create change and improve quality of nursing care through a variety of ways including but not exclusively education focused.
- In accordance with the organizations mission and goals, participates in improvement and outcome goals and initiatives.
- Develops a positive rapport with team members by encouraging constructive relationships; respect, appreciates and supports the diversity of ideas, and demonstrates team effectiveness skills by acting for the good of the team.

- Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the Organization.
Education:
- Master's Degree in Nursing, required.
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse required.
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant nurse educator experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrate clinical expertise as in the appropriate healthcare field.
- Ability to make effective presentations and facilitate learning.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and build relationships with all levels of personnel.
- Demonstrated skills in nursing expertise, team leadership, leading educational initiatives and project management.
- Strong organization skills, self-starting initiative, and high belief in the change process.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and using Audio/Visual equipment.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Current NY State RN License, required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), required.
- Appropriate certifications for area of expertise and/or coverage.
- Certification in the relevant specialty area is required for this position. However, staff entering the role will be granted up to two (2) years from their start date to obtain necessary certification. As of June 2025, current educators are strongly encouraged to pursue and obtain their certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 35 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.
