Position Summary
Provides care to patients before and after surgical procedures.
Job Duties
- Obtains pertinent information on initial phone interview
- Reviews pertinent chart data and assesses patient on admission. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the scheduled procedure
- Utilizes information obtained to modify planned care and notifies appropriate departments of pertinent information (i.e. potential latex allergy, MRSA, etc.)
- Admits patients in a timely manner, prioritizing admission based on actual times
- Responds appropriately to any unanticipated or emergency situation that could arise during the patient's stay
- Provides concise discharge instructions and patient teaching including follow-up referrals
- Completes follow up phone calls in a timely manner
- Performs Glucometer testing
- Medication administration which includes critical meds plus evaluating response
- Reports critical Lab, Radiology, EKG + ABG values to MD according to policy
- Competent in all anesthesia procedures.
- Assists with bedside interventional procedures.
- Adapts to varied age specific patient populations, eg, infant, toddler, adult, etc.
- Performs IV placing and removal. Directly accountable for preventing hospital acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff.
- Performs venipuncture, IV infusion therapy, phlebotomy.
- Completes all required annual competencies.
- Precepts new nurses as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
Qualifications and Skills
- Effective communication and critical thinking skills
- Familiarity with medical equipment used in an OR
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure Requirements
- BLS - AHA approved
- Active RN license in NJ or approved state, BSN preferred
- Some experience preferred
