Traffic Signal Technician II at City of Spartanburg, SC

About the Department

This is the entry level position that will modify, maintain, and repair all types of traffic signals and highway lighting systems and all electronically controlled traffic signal installations; perform field work in the overhauling and adjusting of traffic signal devices; and perform related duties as required. The employee will work under supervision, and assist the Traffic Signal Technician III. 

Position Duties

Install maintain, and repair highway traffic signal systems, including wiring, conduits, poles, heads, controllers, switches, vehicle detectors, and does special illumination and painting in connection with these signals

Install and repairs highway lighting systems and other electrically or electronically controlled installations
 
Makes detailed checks of traffic signals and highway lighting systems to locate trouble or the cause of failure and adjusts detectors and times controllers; replaces parts where failure or damage occurs
 
Inspects and tests both signal and lighting systems for proper functioning; and may act as inspector on traffic signal installations under contract
 
Prepares lists of materials needed; make daily work reports and keep simple records
 
Must be able to life and/or carry weights of approximately 80lbs. requires the ability to stoop, kneel, climb, balance, and reach.
 

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience in installation and repair of electric or electronic control devices; or a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities, IMSA Traffic Signal Level I or II Certification, must possess a valid SC Class B Driver's License. 

Pay depends on experience. Starting salary is $39,915.20.
