About the Role
Data is the true differentiator for Uber Freight in the long run. We need your help to build out the data flywheel at Uber Freight. As an engineer on the Data Platform team at Uber Freight, you will build and own tooling, pipelines and canonical datasets to power Uber Freight's analytics, intelligence and external data integration. You will be responsible for unlocking insights through strategic external data integration and acquisition. In short, you will be making the core of Freight's datasets reliable and our utilization efficient.
What the Candidate Will Do
- Build a scalable, reliable, operable and performant big data workflow platform for Uber's data scientists/engineers, AI/ML engineers, and operations folks.
- Drive the usage of Freight's data model across the organization with multiple product teams.
- Design and implement data integration services, best practices and reusable frameworks.
- Drive efficiency and reliability improvements through design and automation: data quality, performance, scaling, observability, and monitoring.
Basic Qualifications
- High School or GDE equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Computer Science and related fields
- 2+ years of software development experience
- Programming skills with Python OR Java
- Experience with distributed systems and services
- Keen interest in solving business challenges and a good understanding of how data empowers business stakeholders
- Good understanding of distributed systems and big data architecture (NoSQL/SQL, Kafka, Flink, Hadoop, Hive, Cassandra, Presto, etc)
- Previously worked on data processing and ETL, hands on building pipelines and workflow framework through Hive, Presto, Spark etc.
- Proven experience in data warehousing architecture and data modeling.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
