SENIOR ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ASSEMBLER at DIAMOND ANTENNA & MICROWAVE
DIAMOND ANTENNA & MICROWAVE · Littleton, United States Of America · Onsite
- Senior
- Office in Littleton
Description
A Senior Electro-Mechanical Assembler (RF Rotary Joints) is responsible for the precision mechanical
and electrical assembly of high-frequency rotary joints used in radar, satellite communication, EW, and
other mission-critical aerospace systems. This role combines micron-level mechanical tolerancing with
RF performance awareness, ensuring assemblies meet tight VSWR, return loss, and insertion loss
specifications across wide frequency bands.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
- Assemble RF rotary joints and slip ring hybrids integrating precision bearings, waveguide or coaxial interfaces, and slip contacts.
- Route and terminate RF cables (SMA, SMP, TNC, or custom coax types) ensuring impedance continuity and minimal reflection.
- Apply torque specs on threaded RF connectors, couplers, and precision fasteners using calibrated tools per engineering drawings.
- Interpret detailed mechanical and RF assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and test procedures under ITAR control.
- Perform verification testing (continuity, isolation, DC resistance, and rotation smoothness); assist with RF test setups.
- Document builds per AS9100, MIL-STD-883, and IPC-J-STD-001 standards, maintaining full lot traceability.
- Collaborate with engineering on mechanical fit-ups, grounding, or preload adjustments to optimize RF performance.
- Support process improvement by developing build checklists, torque charts, and ESD control enhancements.
- Train junior assemblers in coax cable prep, soldering, and connector termination best practices.
Required Skills & Technical Knowledge
- 8–12 years of precision electro-mechanical assembly experience; RF rotary joint or slip ring assembly preferred.
- Expertise in coaxial assembly and soldering (RG-405, RG-316, semi-rigid coax) to MIL-STD-348 standards.
- Skilled with bearing fits, seal installation, and axial preload adjustment using micrometers and torque tools.
- Familiar with clean assembly environments and static control procedures (ESD/EOS).
- Able to interpret mechanical tolerances (±0.001") and RF interface callouts.
- Experience in defense documentation workflows (FOD control, DHRs, NCR/MRB).
Certifications / Standards
- IPC-A-610 Class 3 and J-STD-001 certification required or strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-2000, AS9100, and ITAR compliance mandatory.
- ESD / FOD awareness, precision assembly, and RF safety handling required.
