Job Summary

The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in overseeing daily accounting operations, supporting month-end close, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, and providing accurate and timely financial reporting to senior management and corporate. This position supervises accounting staff and contributes to financial planning and process improvements within a high-volume healthcare environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Support the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and provide supporting documentation for annual audits.
  • Monitor and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (operations, HR, compliance, etc.) to align financial reporting with business objectives.
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and scalability within the finance function.
  • Provide oversight of departmental expenditures and prepare variance analyses for budget monitoring.
  • Supervise assigned accounting staff and ensure professional development and adherence to policies and procedures.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

This position is responsible for the direct supervision of accounting team members (e.g., Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll staff). They provide coaching, feedback, and training to staff. The Assistant Controller participates in hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with HR.

 

Required Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Required Experience

  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
  • Experience in a large-scale, high-volume business environment.

  • Proven track record of managing monthly and annual close processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or MBA is preferred.
  • Healthcare industry experience is strongly preferred.

 

Financial Responsibilities

  • This position does not hold direct financial ownership but supports reporting and compliance functions.

  • This position does not currently have budget responsibilities.

 

Languages

  • Advanced English is required.
  • Spanish is preferred.
