TITLE: Multilingual Learners (ML) Paraeducator Mentor           

LOCATION: ASC - English Language Learners     

REPORTS TO: Director Multilingual Learners  

DEPARTMENT: Multilingual Learners (ML) 

 

Hours / Work Times 

 

7 Hours Per Day (8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch)

 

190 days per year (180 student days/10 holidays)

 

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected.  The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 10/17/25.

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit towards salary step placement.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The ML Paraeducator Mentor will act as a mentor and trainer for ML Paraeducators. The Mentor will provide training and support in ML-Department-endorsed instructional support strategies to new Paraeducators and those requiring additional training and coaching. This may include modeling instructional practice, arranging job shadowing, coaching, assisting with mandatory district account set-up and management, and acting as an advocate for new staff. These responsibilities will fall under the supervision of the Director of ML and ML Program Coordinators. The ML Paraeducator Mentor will also support training and implementation of WA State Language Proficiency testing throughout the district.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist and support new staff transitioning into the role of ML Paraeducator which includes, but is not limited to:
  • Helping staff setup district accounts needed for student information management, testing, and training.
  • Arranging ELL Paraeducator induction to clarify expectations of ELL Paraeducator role.
  • Support new staff with WA State Language Proficiency testing processes and procedures.
  1. Plan and implement coaching sessions for new staff and staff that may require additional support related to the responsibilities of the ML Paraeducator including but not limited to:
  • the effective delivery of instructional support
  • collaboration with peers and teachers
  • scheduling and planning
  • best practices for WA State assessments
  1. Plan and implement modeling of instructional support strategies with ML students.
  2. Provide organized and structured feedback and follow-up support.
  3. Assist in professional development for new Paraeducators.
  4. Report regularly to ML Program Coordinators.
  5. Collaborate with ML Department staff and other departments as needed to support testing processes, professional development, and other projects.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:

Computer/Laptop, telephone, copy machines, and all other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions as listed above.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Test on basic skills required)

  1. Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English.
  2. Has successful experience supporting, training, and mentoring others in a professional or organizational setting, preferably with experience in multilingual education or working with multilingual paraeducators.
  3. Experience working collaboratively on school-based teams to support multilingual learner programming and language proficiency assessment.
  4. Experience administering English language proficiency assessments across grade levels, with knowledge of WA State testing preferred.
  5. Minimum 5 years of successful experience as an ML Paraeducator.
  6. Preferred experience in mentoring and delivery of professional development to adults.
  7. Demonstrates ability to work productively without immediate supervision.
  8. Works well as a team player.
  9. Able to organize schedules, resources, and activities for new ML Paraeducators.
  10. Relates well with ML students and their families.
