The Department of Mathematics and Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences at Pittsburg State University invites applications for a Assistant Professor, tenure-earning position in Mathematics. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in Mathematics. 
  • Additional expectations include mentoring students, active involvement in professional organizations, service to the university, college and community, and commitment to student success.  
  • Research commensurate with the expectations of the department for tenure and promotion is expected. 
  • Other service duties may include advising student organizations, participating in recruitment and retention efforts, and providing support to other institutional efforts. 

 Education and Experience 

Required Education and Experience – Time of Hire: 

  • PhD, or equivalent, in Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher learning at the time of employment 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in academic and professional settings, both orally and in writing
  • Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching along with the ability and desire to develop a scholarly research program commensurate with the expectations of the department

Candidates must hold a PhD, or equivalent, in Mathematics or a closely related field. This degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level. 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Coursework or experience in Operations Research, Numerical Analysis, Computational Mathematics or other areas of Applied Mathematics 
  • Evidence of, and commitment to, undergraduate teaching and mentoring 
  • Experience teaching Mathematics courses (1+ years)
