The Henderson Police Department (HPD) is excited to announce a Police Officer CAT I Certified/Lateral Police Officer recruitment. The department is seeking dedicated people of character, courage, conscience, and compassion who are interested in a challenging and rewarding career of service to the citizens and community of Henderson.  

Under general supervision, performs law enforcement duties related to detecting, preventing, and investigating crime and maintaining law and order; and performs related duties as required.

What Will Training Look Like?
Successful candidates will participate in a 6-8 week accelerated training/orientation program (in lieu of a traditional 26-28 week academy), in addition to an up to 17-week field training program.
  • Candidates who possess a current CAT I certificate will participate in a 6-7 week accelerated training/orientation program
  • Candidates who possess an out-of-state equivalent certificate will participate in an 8-9 week accelerated training/orientation program

Position Duties

  • Currently possess an "active" Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Category I certification; or out-of-state equivalent and must obtain reciprocity through the Nevada Commission on POST requirements
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license. Upon hire, possess a Nevada or "border state" driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035
  • Must be a U.S. citizen by the time of application
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by the completion of the accelerated Henderson Police Department Academy/training program 
  • Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor. Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence
  • Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes
  • Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear
  • Must successfully complete the accelerated Henderson Police Department Academy/training program within the time frame prescribed by the department
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years.  Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment

ASSESSMENT INFORMATION:
Step 1: Submit Your Application – Apply by October 27, 2025, to join us for the mid to late February accelerated training/orientation program
Step 2: Written Exam – You will receive an email from Human Resources with instructions on how to complete the written exam. This must be completed within 7 days of submitting your application (Additional information about the written exam -click here)
Step 3: Physical Fitness Test – Week of November 3, 2025 (additional dates may be added if needed the week of November 10, 2025)
Step 4: Preliminary Interview (Oral Board) – Conducted via Microsoft Teams after successful completion of Physical Fitness Test - Week of November 3, 2025 (additional dates may be added if needed the week of November 10, 2025)
Step 5: Personal History Questionnaire / Background Interview & Investigation / Polygraph Examination / Fingerprinting - Week of November 3rd through Week of November 24th 
Step 6: Drug Screening / Psychological Examination / Medical & Physical Screening 
Step 7: Employment Offer & Accelerated Training/Orientation Program
