About the Department
The Town of Fountain Hills (fountainhillsaz.gov) has an excellent full-time job opportunity available as a Street Maintenance Technician in the Public Works Department. This position reports directly to the Streets Superintendent.
The Public Works Department is the Town’s “Can-Do Department,” keeping Fountain Hills safe, clean, and well-maintained. From repairing streets and sidewalks to trimming vegetation and operating a variety of tools and equipment, the Street Maintenance Technicians take pride in keeping the community’s infrastructure in top condition year-round.
Position will remain open until filled with a weekly review of applications anticipated.
Position Duties
- Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and manual labor, repairing and maintaining public streets and rights-of-way.
- Performs a variety of maintenance tasks associated with the repair of streets and works with a variety of construction materials including asphalt, hot tar, striping material, gravel and concrete. Trims trees and vegetation..
- Operates a variety of light to medium power tools and equipment, such as a jackhammer, chainsaw, tamping machine, air compressor, pickup truck, trailer, aerial lift, tractors, dump truck, street sweeper, and other equipment utilized in the maintenance and repair of the streets.
- Work often requires prolonged heavy physical exertion that may be performed under adverse weather conditions and may entail working in close proximity to heavy traffic.
- Performs operator maintenance as needed on vehicles and equipment
- Maintains daily work records which may include computerized record keeping
- Performs related duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
- Equivalent to one-year full time street construction, maintenance work, or other construction work involving the operation of light or heavy motorized equipment.
- Possession of a valid driver's license for a minimum of two years with a good driving record. Average computer skills required. The Town currently designates this job as a "safety-sensitive position." Accordingly, the Town requires satisfactory completion of a drug and alcohol screening as a condition of employment.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and training that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
- Work requires the ability to read work orders, street signs, directions, maps, written correspondence, policies, and safety information.
- Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Work requires the ability to write daily work reports and general correspondence.
- Work requires analysis and judgment in accomplishing diversified duties.
- The incumbents in this position contact others within the organization. These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the Town, which may be involved in decision-making or providing approval or decision-making authority for purchases or projects. In addition, these incumbents work with individuals outside the Town who may belong to professional or peer organizations. Working with various state and federal agencies may also be required of the employee. Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies or products. Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers and public.
