Description of the Team/Project
Our quantum computer embed several independent electronics boards, each designed specifically to support the operation of optical systems. Some boards embed a microcontroller as the central element, which is in charge of driving sensors, actuators, ADCs, DACs, as well as communications with the main computer. We currently use micro-controllers from the Atmel AVR family in our designs, but are limited in several aspects with this family.
During this internship, you will help up pave the way for more powerful designs by demonstrating the STM32 family, bringing us a more up to date software toolchain, as well as faster and more capable devices.
After an initial period, during which you will get acquainted with STM32, you will port our existing code base to STM32 using a temperature controller PID board. The port will follow good coding practices, thus enabling easy reuse in future projects.
You will continue the internship, as time allows, with assessing FreeRTOS, a real-time embedded operating system, as well as the Ethernet capabilities of the STM32.
All your work will constitute a highly valuable framework, that will enable faster delivery of projects as well as better performance and maintainability.
Your Key Responsibilities
Software development:
- Self-learning project on STM32 platform
- Code migration and library development from AVR to STM32
- Programming demos and code a framework on FreeRTOS.
- Assessing Ethernet capabilities of STM32
