About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our fast-paced manufacturing facility. You’ll be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of production machinery and equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.

This is a hands-on, multi-disciplinary role requiring expertise in both electrical and mechanical engineering. Join a top team at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs on Facilities and Manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and implement timely and effective solutions.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new machinery or equipment upgrades.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out safely and strictly in compliance with health & safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of work carried out using the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
  • Work collaboratively with production teams to identify areas of improvement.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support lean manufacturing practices.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns, minimising production downtime.
  • Assist with spare parts management and stock control.

Key Skills & Experience Required

  • Time-served engineer with an apprenticeship or relevant NVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Basic understanding of health & safety, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Flexible and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills and a great teammate attitude.

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • 17th/18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
  • Experience with PLC fault finding (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement tools (e.g., 5S, Kaizen).


Shift Pattern

  • Monday - Friday 37.5hrs per week.
