OVERVIEW

First Ascent Climbing & Fitness is dedicated, welcoming, and organized Desk Lead to lead our Hospitality Staff starting on January 1st, 2026. First Ascent’s Hospitality Staff is responsible for creating positive guest experiences, maintaining gym safety and cleanliness, and selling memberships.

Our Desk Leads work 30-40 hours per week at the front desk, leading the rest of the Hospitality Team. This includes setting an example for great customer service work, maintaining cleanliness standards for the gym, conducting ongoing training, and answering guest questions that are elevated past the Hospitality Staff.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Welcome guests into the gym and connect them with the best match for membership/day pass offerings

• Administer orientations, top rope tests, and lead tests

• Maintain a high level of knowledge of our programs, policies, and workflows

• Supervise the hospitality team at the front desk, ensuring a high level of work quality

• Delegate tasks, ensure that all daily and weekly cleaning lists are completed

• Meet with the Hospitality Manager to coordinate monthly promotions and sales objectives

• Maintain high safety standards in the gym by coordinating safety sweeps and intervening when guests do not meet our safety standards

• Respond to potentially serious incidents, such as injuries, rope rescue scenarios, and altercations. Coordinate with EMS as needed. 

• Participate in new employee training. Facilitate ongoing hospitality, sales, and safety training for all hospitality staff.

REQUIREMENTS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• At least 2 years hospitality or customer service experience

• Excellent customer facing communication skills

• Weekend availability

• Either already Top Rope and Lead Belay certified or able to become certified

• Dependable and timely

• Upstanding reputation in the climbing community

• Personal climbing experience is preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently required to move throughout the facility, talk, and hear

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions

• May be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch

• Must have normal vision to perform routine observation, reading and writing

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Predominantly in a climate controlled indoor environment

• Noise level ranges from moderate to loud

• Employee must be able to concentrate through distraction and communicate effectively
