The Custom Packing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the custom packing operations to ensure products are accurately and efficiently packed to meet both client expectations and company quality standards. This role combines hands-on work with team leadership, coordinating packing schedules, supervising staff, and ensuring best-in-class packaging presentation. The Custom Packing Supervisor is expected to model professionalism, maintain a clean and organized work area, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in packing workflows and materials handling
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead, train, coach, and supervise packing staff to achieve daily production goals and maintain high-quality standards.
- Provide feedback, participate in hiring and evaluations, and serve as a role model to ensure team performance and accountability.
- Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, client renderings, packing instructions, and shipping documentation.
- Ensure packaging methods meet quality, safety, aesthetic, and customer-specific standards.
- Confirm all labeling, boxing, and protective materials are correctly applied per Moss SOPs and client expectations.
- Perform and oversee hands-on quality checks and inspections for each job to ensure accuracy and damage-free delivery.
- Understand customer experience during product receipt and installation; ensure packaging enhances that experience.
- Coordinate with production, shipping, and customer service departments to meet deadlines and resolve issues.
- Track labor, materials usage, job completion, and issues using the company’s operating system.
- Suggest and support improvements to packing methods, materials, layout, and workflow efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with other departments, escalating workflow or quality issues as needed.
- Evaluate returned client property and provide appropriate follow-up documentation.
- Listen and ask clarifying questions to ensure thorough understanding of verbal and written instructions.
- Complete assignments on time with attention to detail, documentation, and follow-through.
- Know the location and proper use of all department tools and forms.
- Work efficiently, adhering to production and safety policies at all times.
Qualifications
Experience: Strong experience using hand tools and reading tape measures. Carpentry or other mechanical experience a plus. This position requires great attention to detail. Exceptional organizational skills are required. Proven experience exceling in fast-paced, high demand, high end quality production and install environments.
Education and Knowledge: High School Diploma or equivalent experience. Basic math skills are required. Strong aptitude for problem solving and critical thinking. Knowledge of 5S and lean manufacturing principles a plus.
Communication and Language Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing in English. Ability to explain complex construction methods and why a certain construction method is desirable Responsible communication habits are critical to success in this role.
Computer skills: General knowledge of basic PC navigation required. Able and willing to learn additional computer systems used by Moss. Able to use a touch screen tablet and desktop computer.
Mathematical Skills: Able to read scale blueprints, technical prints and architectural plans and lead installation and dismantle of complex exhibits is required. General math skills are required, including reading a tape measure, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and basic geometry, and use of scale ruler. Ability to accurately record and log time onsite using time logging tools.
Working Conditions and Environment: Must be able to handle various levels of stress associated with tight customer deadlines and short lead times. Must be prepared to work overtime as needed to meet turnaround goals. Ability to repeatable lift up to 50 lbs. throughout work shift. Ability to handle kneeling and/or squatting for prolonged periods of time. Ability to work at a fast pace, under pressure from work demand, and handle multiple tasks during high periods of stress. Must be able to stand and sit for long periods; and be able to use computer and office tools. Must be able to see colors to perform graphic color checks.
Travel: Willingness to travel to supervise installations on-site preferred. Travel is expected to be less than 10% of time.
Schedule and assign packing tasks for the day:
· Oversee employee training and compliance with packing protocols.
· Ensure packing materials and tools are stocked and available.
· Provide coaching, performance feedback, and participate in evaluations.
· Fill in for Logistics or Shipping supervisors when needed.
