Yard Driver / Yard Shifter at FreshDirect

 The Transportation Yard employee, under the direction of the Yard Manager, will participate in all aspects of transportation yard operation to ensure exceptional customer service to Fresh Direct field staff. Also responsible for providing efficient and safe delivery of boxes to our depots within the NYC area on occasions. 

Responsibilities:

• Provide impeccable customer service to Field operators, Managers, and Senior Staff
• Support the needs of the business by being available to work flexible hours including early mornings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays when necessary
• Meet with Lead and Yard Manager at TCC in Pre-Work Communication Meeting
• Assist and/or lead yard set up
• Perform full inspection of trucks prior to moving the vehicles
• Make timely bay moves and rotations
• Take all loaded truck keys to the TCC after parking the trucks
• Take all keys out of trucks that are not on FD property
• Securing and sealing all loaded trucks that are moved
• Scanning of all truck moves
• Monitor DDS Screen with manager to efficiently retrieve and reunite plant late boxes 100%
• Allocate trucks and pull them on a timely basis from the bay doors (Bay turns less than 4 minutes)
• Take trucks to assign yard
• Follow proper secure procedure: curtains down, cargo seat belts applied, freezer doors closed
• Make sure refer is on, and temp for every staged truck is 50 degrees or below, before loading
• Real time accurate scans of all trucks during all phase of the shifting process
• Maintains an average of 4 moves per hour throughout the day
• Report all issues to the TCC and shipping yard, to the manager and lead
• Report the completion of tasks
• Review the days performance with Yard Manager and Lead
• Do Not Exceed the 14 hour DOT law. You are responsible to ensure you do not break the law

Education and Physical Requirements:

• A minimum of one (1) year of RECENT commercial truck driving experience
• No degree required
• Must have a valid NY, NJ, CT, MD, DE, VA, DC or PA driver license
• Ability to clearly communicate and read in English
• Must be able to work weekends (Saturday & Sunday) and Holidays
• Must be able to work a flexible shift (mornings and/or evenings)
• Ability to complete all basic and recurring training
• No suspensions within the past 12 months and no more than 1 suspension in the past 3 years
• Ability to prioritize and make decisions independently
• Ability to navigate a route successfully & independently
• Cannot have more than 3 moving violations within the past 3 years
• CDL (Class A/B) Preferred
• Must be able and willing to lift 50 pounds.
• In an 8-10 hour work day: standing/walking 6-10 hours.
• Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
• Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
• Constant exposure to temperatures: <-10 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators)
• Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
