Job Description
Position Responsibilities
- Ensures that the quality of safety documents, such as risk assessments, pre-start checklists, inspections and permits, is of a high standard and reflects reality;
- Supervises the creation and delivery of safety training programs educating employees on safe working practices, appropriate equipment operation, and emergency procedures;
- Conducts regular interactions to ensure that procedures are followed and that knowledge is transferred to employees as required;
- Assesses impact of training programs on organizational safety or accident rates, and suggests modifications to training curriculum as needed;
- Investigates incidents or accidents, gathers and analyzes statistics, and makes recommendations for improvements;
- Liaises frequently with the client and attends safety meetings as required;
- Prepares and submits reports and investigations in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements;
- Ensures that sites meet leading and lagging KPI targets and develops plans if targets are not met;
- Ensures that BLYs EHS fundamentals are being followed;
- Hire review, coach, and develop the EHS&T team. Monitoring work, adherence to policy and safety requirements;
- Routinely conduct work-place audits and rig inspections to monitor work activities and ensure compliance with client, company, and government regulations;
- Assist with and/or lead Safety Standdowns;
- Partner with field staff to maintain the necessary documentation to comply with client, company, and government regulations;
- Assist with developing written programs to meet client, company, and government regulations;
- Conduct taxonomy and monitor occupational injuries and illnesses and advise on ways to protect workers and improve workplace safety;
- Enter incident data and other required information into the Global EHS Management System (GEMS);
- Monitor IVMS in the company’s vehicles and ensure that safety protocols are followed;
- Responsible for facility and shop safety inspections;
- Obtain needed certifications to perform necessary duties and train others;
- Lead environmental initiatives and collect data to support the company’s emissions management and ESG requirements;
- Develop additional safety skills and credentials by attending selected courses and clinics;
- Interact with client safety representatives, as required, and promote Boart Longyear’s delivery of safe profitability and growth;
- Assist in HR/EHS functions including scheduling, evaluation of candidates, hiring, and training. Also, participate in workers compensation and injury management calls;
- Serve as a liaison, for personnel matters, between the office personnel and field crews when required.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field or at least 7 Years of Experience in Mining
- Certification with CRSP, CSP, CMSP or NEBOSH
- Lead Auditor in ISO 14001 and/or 45001
- 3 Years of Experience in Drilling industry or similar industrial contract service organization
- 3-5 Year experience supervising or managing EHST professionals
- Ability to Foster Teamwork

- Willingness to travel, as required, to work sites, including overnight stays
