POSITION:                K-12 Counseling Supervisor 

 

BUILDING:                Administration Office

 

 

Assignment:             10 Months

 

Qualifications:                      

 

    1. Preferably possess an Instructional II certificate as validated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

  1. Preferably possess a Master’s Degree in his/her primary area of Instruction.
  1. Preferably possess a Supervisory I certificate or be actively participating in a Supervisory I program. 

 

Job Summary:         

This administrative position provides counselor leadership for their respective department including, but not limited to leadership through department meetings, curriculum writing, Act 339 goals, and professional learning.  The K-12 Counseling Supervisor serves in a leadership capacity to move the counseling department forward in state- and district-level goals and initiatives.  The K-12 Counseling Supervisor also conducts critical management functions to include, but not limited to, attendance at district meetings, professional development coordination, staffing and scheduling, office management and curriculum writing.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Act 339 Responsibilities:

 

  1. Serve as the chair of the District’s Act 339 Advisory Council.
  2. Seek input from counseling members and other relevant stakeholders to complete the Act 339 Plan.
  3. Monitor and meet deadlines related to Act 339 Plan.
  4. Identify short- and long-range goals for the growth and development of the department related to the Act 339 Plan.
  5. Establish and maintain a data system on relevant student information (grades, drop-out rates, attendance, career goals, visits to counseling office, etc.)
  6. Review and revise Act 339 Plan at least annually.

 

Curriculum and Instruction Responsibilities:

 

  1. Coordinate with the Director of Student Services and Director of Educational Programming on yearly professional development experiences.
  2. Coordinate with the Director of Student Services and Director of Educational Programming on curriculum writing and/or revisions.
  3. Share with members of the department educational technology resources, free materials, professional development opportunities, career counseling materials, brochures, flyers, etc.
  4. Review, along with members of the department, new program materials where there is a necessity for a change. It shall be the K-12 Counseling Supervisor’s responsibility to notify the Director of Educational Programming of needed changes, to receive samples, make the samples available to the department members, and shall, in cooperation with the members of the department, evaluate and recommend a selection.
  5. Seek out and attend relevant trainings, webinars, and/or conferences as related to district and counseling goals. In some instances, these experiences may be assigned by the building principal, Director of Student Services and/or the Director of Educational Programming. 
  6. Attend School Counselor Consortium Meetings as the district representative.

 

Personnel Responsibilities: 

 

  1. Screen counselor applicants for vacant positions.
  2. Schedule screener interview and/or first-round interviews in coordination with principal at appropriate level.
  3. Assist with departmental observations and/or self-directed projects as assigned.
  4. Assist with on-boarding/mentoring program for new counselors.
  5. Supervise all school counselors.
  6. Attend BID meetings for foster students.
  7. Oversee McKinney Vento requirements and counselor in charge of students experiencing homelessness.
  8. Conduct monthly department meetings and maintain minutes. Minutes should include a listing of members in attendance and topics of discussion.  The K-12 Counseling Supervisor shall preside as chairperson at all department meetings.  Minutes may be reviewed by building principal, Department of Student Services, and/or Director of Educational Programming. 

      9. Coordinate the work of the department with activities of other departments of the school with emphasis on the career              education standards, mental health services, and post-secondary planning.

 

Building Level Responsibilities:

 

  1. Oversee and track process for communicating with each student on counselors’ caseloads to review overall wellness, academic progress, and post-secondary plans.
  2. Oversee grading procedures for course credit, GPA, rank, final grades and transcript updates
  3. Oversee department budget in consultation with the business office, building leaders, district leaders. Determine the budgetary needs of the counseling department related to the purchase of supplies as well as costs involved in operating student activities, such as but not limited to Career Day, college fairs, job fairs, SAT administration, mental health groups, etc.
  4. Adhere to all budgetary and procurement card procedures, if applicable.
  5. In coordination with the administration, oversee processes for student scheduling, enrollments, and withdrawals.
  6. In coordination with principal, track student failure rates, send potential failure letters, and oversee Summer School enrollment process.
  7. Oversee staff who facilitate and monitor standardized assessments as required (SATs, PSATs, PAYS survey, AP Testing, etc.).
  8. In coordination with principal, monitor and track Career Preparation Evidence for state reporting.
  9. Develop and facilitate K-12 career exploration and preparation curriculum and programming.

 

District Level Responsibilities:

 

  1. Coordinate and oversee School-Based Mental Health Program to include the implementation of Terrace Metrix and Care Solace support services.
  2. Coordinate the work of the department with activities of other departments in the school.
  3. Coordinate school-based services.
  4. Serve as Act 504 Coordinator.
  5. Oversee NCAA Clearinghouse.
  6. Assist, along with members of the department, with periodic review of the K-12 school programs.
  7. Perform other duties as directed by the building principals and/or administration.
  8. Engage in at least one community agency in the Carlisle Area.
  9. Serve as the District’s Military Liaison and oversee Purple Star obligation.
  10. All other duties as assigned.
