LOCATIONS
Emma Love Hardee Elementary & Southside Elementary

QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited educational institution
(2) Hold or be eligible for certification, by the State of Florida, in Elementary Education (K-6) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) (K-12) or ESOL Endorsement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Hold or be eligible for certification in Reading Endorsement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of children in the age group assigned. Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum. Knowledge of current educational research in regard to teaching students who are ELL. Experience working with ELL students. Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology in the field. Knowledge of varied learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles. Experience with small group, differentiated instruction in literacy and mathematics. Ability to communicate proficiently orally and in writing in English and Spanish with students, parents, and others. Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness. Ability to effectively assess levels of student achievement, analyze test results and performance, and prescribe actions for improvement. Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn. Ability to work effectively with students, peers, administrators, parents, and others.

JOB GOAL:
To provide an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, physical, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with District philosophy, goals, and objectives..

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* (1)    Provides intensive small group intervention lessons to ELL students for the purpose of developing their ability to effectively communicate, read and write in English.
* (2)    Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
* (3)    Adapts curriculum for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that addresses individualized learning plans with established lesson plans and building academic English content knowledge.
* (4)    Attends placement meetings for new ELL students to meet parents, answer questions, and to determine the student’s level of English proficiency so as to better assist the teacher with instruction.
* (5)    Administers tests and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating the student’s language abilities.
* (6)    Attends Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State (ACCESS) training for test administrators.
* (7)    Reviews and shares annual ACCESS 2.0 results, at the beginning of the year, with teachers and paraprofessionals who are working with ELL students.
* (8)    Review and share Worldclass Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Can Do Descriptors with English Language Arts (ELA) teachers.
* (9)    Works with bilingual teachers and paraprofessionals to provide guidance, support, and instruction on how to best work with ELL students.
*(10)   Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans, based on data.
(11)    Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
