About the Department
Prepares and presents educational programming, tours and events for assigned subject area including conservation and nature, horticulture, historical farming and life, sustainability, food and environment, community gardening and other programming subject areas. Ensures programming interprets MetroParks’ mission, goals and strategy.
Position Duties

• Supports the research and development of the program strategy and programs designed to inform and educate the general public in skills and techniques.
• Generates and implements programing of classes, workshops, demonstrations, tours, outreach and special events under the supervision of the Education Coordinator.
• Organizes program logistics including facility bookings, program description input, scheduling qualified and adequate program staffing, developing lesson plans, developing presentations, equipment and materials staging, , and other preparatory duties for education programs.
• Conducts evaluation of program upon completion
• Delivers outreach programming by presenting public programs and hosting booths outside of MetroParks and otherwise representing MetroParks within the community.
• Develops, implements, delivers, and monitors tours and programs for community groups and schools.
• Trains, observes, and schedules volunteers for tours, programs and events to empower volunteers to be advocates for MetroParks and its initiatives to promote its mission throughout the County.
• Supports marketing and promotional efforts for programming, special events and facilities – i.e. social media, e-mail marketing, print materials, etc.
• Develops and maintains effective working relationships with program participants, presenters, consultants, contractors, teachers, childcare professionals, scout leaders, local clubs and industry, donors, and other persons and entities. Serves as liaison to various committees and community groups to generate and maintain interest and support in area of focus.
• Participates in budget planning and supports recommendations for the annual budget. Monitors expenditures spent for programming to ensure compliance with approved budget. Supports methods of cost recovery and funding including cost of service reports, grant requests, sponsorships and identification of other funding sources.
• Produces and coordinates with the Marketing Department on articles for newsletters, brochures, displays, audio-visuals and other materials designed to inform and educate the public.
• Conducts research to remain current on practices, trends and skills to develop programming and educational opportunities for the public.
• Maintains records and reports including program monthly reports, cost of service reports, work plans, and other records and reports as assigned.
• Repairs and maintains educational equipment and inventory
• Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
• Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works outside of normal schedule as required.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides service to the public, responding to questions, offering assistance, and providing
information.
• Participates in MetroParks-wide programming as needed.
• Serves on agency initiatives and projects working with various MetroParks’ department employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A combination of appropriate education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
• Associate's degree in a field relevant to the area of assigned programming, and one-year
relevant programming experience.
• Willingness and ability to work an irregular schedule, including evenings and weekends.
•Certified Heritage Interpreter within 2 years of employment
