We have an opening for a HIM Clerk.

What We Do:

Charter Oak Hospital offers compassionate and individualized treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. We believe in a patient-centric approach, where every treatment plan is tailored to meet the specific needs of each person who walks through our doors.

What You’ll Do:

The Medical Records clerk supports the Medical Records Department through a variety of clerical, technical and related support services. 

 Responsibilities include:

·         Process incoming records requests using HIPAA, Hospital Policies and Regulatory Guidelines

·         Verify subpoenas and court orders for validity and respond within strict deadlines

·         Access and compile computerized and paper medical records and reviews for accuracy prior to printing, mailing and faxing the records

·         Handle all incoming calls related to Health Information requests

·         Verify all Release of Information requests are valid and meet HIPAA standards under Behavioral Healthcare and Chemical Dependency regulations

·         Meet with patients to facilitate coordination of healthcare information to Patient's and medical providers

·         Provides good customer service and represents facility in a positive manner

·         Other related duties as requested

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • High school degree or equivalent required
  • 2 years healthcare experience
  • Experience in psychiatric facility preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology with specific familiarly with psychiatric terminology helpful
  • Experience with ICD 9 CM procedures and use of DSM III R helpful
  • General clerical and office procedure skills
  • Business correspondence and communication skills
