Campus Safety & Security Officer (Part-time Days)

SCOPE OF WORK: Performs general safety and security functions associated with patrolling, inspecting, and securing buildings and grounds, enforcing rules and regulations, responding to alarms and incidents, assisting the community and public, maintaining records, and assisting with training and guiding new officers. This position reports to the Campus Safety & Security Supervisor. This position works 25 hours a week, year-round and the schedule will be: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-1:00 PM.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Patrols campus buildings and grounds, including off campus locations managed by LRCC, to provide for the safety of our campus community and property.

Provides scheduled student transportation to and from the student apartments using the college shuttle.

Performs regular assessments of campus grounds and inspections of life-safety equipment such as, fire extinguishers, AED�s, emergency lights and parking lot lighting and works closely with Maintenance department to ensure proper operation safety equipment.

Enforces State law pertaining to all individuals on LRCC property and enforces College rules and regulations pertaining to students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Ensures orderly behavior among campus community and visitors.

Enforces LRCC policies and procedures governing safety and the protection of LRCC property, including buildings, grounds, parking lots, roadways and student apartments.

Inspects buildings, grounds, parking lots around LRCC-controlled property for fire, theft, damage and other safety hazards.

Documents all incidents involving health, safety and security of the campus community and LRCC controlled property and reports incidents to Campus Safety & Security Supervisor.

Cooperates with emergency service and law enforcement agencies in all matters of fire, medical and security on campus.

Collaborates with LRCC�s Residence Life staff on activities related to safety promotion, awareness and education both in the student apartments and on campus.

Supports the work of the Campus Safety & Security Office on providing safety training for students, faculty and staff;

Serves students, faculty, staff and guests providing for their safety and ensuring their awareness of their rights and responsibilities.

Conducts investigations concerning LRCC policy violations and/or violations of State laws and adjudicates violations of the Student Code of Conduct.

Assists the Campus Safety & Security Supervisor in the training and onboarding of new officers.

Collaborates with Campus Safety & Security Supervisor on the preparation of the annual Campus Safety Report including, CLERY, Campus Crime Statistics, and Substance Abuse Violations and other required safety-related statistics; complies with the VAWA federal regulations.

Complies with all college, CCSNH, state and federal rules and regulations.

Serves on campus committees as required.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency. Valid drivers' license required. Current CPR/AED and basic first aid certification.

Experience: Three years' experience in law enforcement work as a security guard/officer, police officer, corrections officer, or military police officer. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of experience.

License/Certification: Valid drivers' license required. Current CPR/AED and basic first aid certification or ability to obtain.

Special Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age upon appointment. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule and/or to change hours during any special or emergency event, to support college activities that exceed normal operating hours and to adjust work schedule to meet college requirements. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and is subject to all its provisions.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of law enforcement work and arrest procedures. Skill in dealing with offenders of the rules and regulations established for the control of pilfering and damage to state-owned property. Ability to enforce laws in accordance with standard procedure to control pilfering and damage to state property. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to work with people and secure their cooperation without the use of violence. Ability to perform investigations, question witnesses and prepare written reports. Ability to use judgment when using force to control individuals or groups. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with employees, residents, other law enforcement agencies and the general public. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
