The West Chester Area School District has the following position available:
SUMMARY:
Perform general repairs and maintenance on HVAC equipment & systems, and plumbing equipment & systems.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports directly to the Mechanical Supervisor
- Works cooperatively with administrators, supervisors, staff and others to perform job responsibilities as outlined
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12 month (260-262 days)
- Salary & Benefits are as described in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. (Pay range: $26.01 per hour - $35.91 per hour)
- Must be available to work 1st or 2nd shifts as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
- High school diploma
- Minimum one year of experience in commercial HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Valid PA drivers license
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, block diagrams, electrical schematics, etc.
- Proficiency in the basic use of computers for communication and research.
- Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff and outside professional contacts
Ability to work at height’s utilizing ladders, cranes, buckets, etc.; must be able to reach above and below the waist, walk and use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects. Requires use of both hands for repetitive motion. Able to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb and crawl. Lifts/carries supplies weighing 70 lbs. or more. Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees. Able to stand or walk eighty percent (80%) of workday. Ability to work alone and with little supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Knowledge and ability to maintain, adjust, calibrate, and repair air conditioning, equipment such as window air conditioners, and forced air heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on air side and water side equipment, identifying, installing, maintaining and disposing of all types of filters, cleaning mechanical rooms, picking up and delivering parts.
- Modify, adjust, and maintain heating and air conditioning systems following established protocols and building automation system. Ability to adjust airflows and temperatures to achieve energy savings and comfort level.
- Work with others to perform major overhauls, alterations, and repairs as required.
- Ability to properly remove and replace fiberglass insulation on ducts and pipes.
- Ability to perform repairs, and replacements of various types of plumbing fixtures including lavatories, sinks, water closets, urinals, water coolers, and their related valves, faucets and flushometers.
- Locating, Installing, connecting, and testing, of drain, vent and waste systems; roof floor and area drains; chilled, heating, and domestic water supply piping.
- New installations of basic plumbing fixtures including; sinks, water closets, urinals, mop sinks, ice machines, water heaters, etc.
- Troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of pumps, controls, and sumps used in sewage and storm water removal systems.
- Ability to use soft soldering techniques in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems.
- Proper use of hand and power tools associated with the trade including specialty items such as hand dies, taps, hand augers, powered augers, and drill snakes.
- Ability to complete paperwork including but not limited to; completing work orders, inventory requests, and preventive maintenance forms.
- Must have, or obtain within 1 year, universal refrigerant recovery certification.
