POSITION:                                  Campus Safety Officer

LOCATION:                                 District Wide – As Assigned

REPORTS TO:                              Site Principal or Designee

 

JOB GOAL:

  • To assist the Principal in maintaining a safe school environment for students and staff. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to be successful:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License (Class D)
  • Must be able to obtain an IVP Fingerprint Card through DPS
  • Two years of experience working with youth, law enforcement or related
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work closely with and maintain open communication with the Principal or Designee to provide a safe and positive student and staff environment.
  • Upholds district policy and applicable state and federal
  • Patrols all common areas (e.g. lunch area, classrooms, hallways, walkways, parking lots, athletic fields, etc.) to ensure students comply with the established regulations for maintaining a safe and positive learning environment on campus.
  • Supervises student conduct and diffuses any physical or verbal altercations to maintain safety at all times.
  • Reports undisciplined students to proper authority and completes required
  • Patrols school grounds to detect and/or require correction of unauthorized and improperly parked vehicles.
  • Provides assistance to students, staff and visitors regarding information, emergency conditions, traffic and parking control and when appropriate, “crowd control” at special events.
  • Conducts inspections of doors, windows and gates to ensure that they are in a safe and operable condition, and reports anomalies to supervisor.
  • Operates golf carts and other motorized vehicles
  • Monitors student ID’s to ensure that only students with valid ID’s are on campus and that students do not leave campus without authorization.
  • Monitors, addresses, and apprehends the exit of all unauthorized persons on or within school property Notifies the administrator, SRO, and Senior Campus Safety Officer if unauthorized persons are on the property
  • Assist school staff with inappropriate student Escort students from class to the office when needed.
  • Prevents loitering and deters vandalism on Escorts campus visitors.
  • Reports to supervisor any unusual conditions or noticeable fire hazards or malfunctions of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
  • Sounds alarm or calls 911in case of fire or other emergencies according to emergency
  • Assist with lockdown drills, fire drills, and other school safety procedures to ensure a safe
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and
  • Establish and maintain a good rapport with staff, students and
  • Participates in mandatory district/local in-service training
  • Prepare daily written reports regarding shift
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Site Principal may

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • 9-month contract, Hourly/Non-Exempt position under Placement on Classified salary schedule by the Director of Human Resources dependent upon education and experience

  • Must pass a Background check and Department of Public Safety Fingerprint clearance
  • Must be United States citizen or have valid work visa at date of hire with the ability to maintain. All changes in visa status must be reported to Human Resources immediately. Photo identification and work visa, (if necessary), will be needed for fingerprint clearance card and I-9 documentation prior to first day of work.

EVALUATION:

  • Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.

  • Valid government issued identification or current work visa with expiration
  • Unofficial copies of transcripts will be accepted with applications, official transcripts will be due upon job offer*

* Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation, (word for word) by an acceptable translator. Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework by an acceptable agency such as those agencies certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, (NACES).
