CTE Medical Careers Instructor

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Working under the Associate Superintendent of Instructional Services and the site administrator, will be responsible to provide instruction and training in medical occupations that will prepare the student for entry level employment in the medical careers. Students will learn skills, knowledge, and abilities commensurate to the goals of the program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide training necessary for entry level employment in the related field
• Provide immediate supervision to all students while they are at the training site
• Maintain records related to student performance and attendance
• Maintain current information on and awareness of industry standards for subject area
• Develop lesson plans and implement instruction, enabling students to master competencies in a state approved course outline
• Provide group and individual instruction to students of varying abilities, utilizing effective teaching strategies, aids and equipment
• Evaluate students’ skills and job readiness competencies, and maintain accurate student records
• Manage classroom in a manner conducive to learning
• Work effectively as part of a team
• Keep abreast of current medical career practices and training methods
• Act as a liaison between the high school district and post-secondary programs to ensure a seamless transition of high school students to the college curriculum
• Provide effective and cooperative liaison activities between CTE and community resources
• Perform other duties as required
KNOWLEDGE
Be knowledgeable in all aspects of medical office health care, including both front and back office procedures.
Be knowledgeable of all aspects of direct patient care, including, but not limited to:
• Asepsis and disease prevention
• Medical terminology
• Pharmacology and administration of medications
• Systems of the human body (anatomy and physiology)
• Venipuncture and basic lab procedures
• Universal precautions associated with patient health and safety
• Ethics and legal responsibilities
• Possess general computer skills including word processing and use of the internet
QUALIFICATIONS
Credentials and experience:
RN or LVN
Appropriate credential: Designated Subjects Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential in Health Science/Medical Technology or eligibility to obtain one. For verification of eligibility for Designated Subject Credential, the following must be submitted with the application:
• Three years work experience directly related to the medical careers. One year equals a minimum of 1,500 clock hours and the experience may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid. At least one year must be within the last five years. Completion of 48 units of postsecondary vocational training related to the industry named on the credential may be substituted for 2 of the 5 years of experience.
• High School Diploma
• Completion of Level I and Level II Designated Subjects credential program will be required
• Valid Drivers’ License

• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment applicable to assigned subject area
• Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
• Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations, teach and lecture
• Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students
• Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to demonstrate skills in a classroom, laboratory or shop settings
