How you'll make a difference:

The HR Casework and Change team enables our council to perform people management responsibilities effectively through the provision of consistent and practical HR advice.

As the Senior HR Advisor, your knowledge and expertise will make a difference in providing support and guidance to managers to successfully embed the social care reforms.  

What you will be doing:
  • Daily, you will deliver consultancy and practical advice to the People department, managing complex cases covering a wide range of people management issues.
  • You will be responsible for leading the HR requirements for this significant workforce change project.
  • It will be key for you to ensure appropriate consultation and involvement with staff, trade unions and partner organisations.
  • Using your experience and knowledge you will be an expert in solving problems to be able to deliver solutions which work for our customers and are legally compliant and mitigate risk.
  • Regularly, you will assist with job analysis and design in relation to this project and periodically chair validation panels.
What we need from you:
  • We require you to be professionally qualified, ideally to Associate CIPD (intermediate level) or have an equivalent level of experience in a similar role.  
  • It is essential you have proven, contemporary HR delivery experience and sound technical expertise in employee relations legislation, casework practice and change management principles, ideally gained within a complex operating environment.
  • You must have excellent written and spoken communication skills to provide robust advice and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
  • You will be trained in job evaluation methodology, Hay preferable (or willingness to be trained in Hay methodology), and be able to chair validation panels.
  • Given the elements of this role, you will have effective reasoning and analytical skills and the ability to form sound judgements to give well-reasoned advice.  
What you need to know:
  • Your salary is pro-rata to hours worked.
  • This is a limited term contract, due to end 1st June 2026.
  • We are also offering this as an internal secondment opportunity, you should first seek your line managers permission before applying.
  • This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road, Yate and from home.
