POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Policy and Programs, the ESI Marketing Director is responsible for design and implementation of marketing strategies to increase participation among Education Minnesota members and their families in ESI, NEA and AFT+ sponsored member benefit programs. In addition, the ESI Marketing Director performs the role of Education Minnesota Retired staff liaison working closely with Retired officers and congressional district directors to effectively market and promote Retired membership to Education Minnesota members.
Education Minnesota is a member-led labor union that has identified racial equity and social justice as primary organizational goals. All staff are expected to participate, individually and collectively, in ongoing training, discussions, and activities to advance these goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage advertising and promotional distribution channels, including print, electronic communications, web, and social media.
- Design and deliver regular member benefit presentations in collaboration with local leaders and Education Minnesota field staff.
- Design and implementation of marketing strategies to increase participation among Education Minnesota members and their families in ESI, NEA and AFT sponsored member benefit programs.
- Serve as liaison between Education Minnesota field staff, local leaders, and retired program to build awareness and provide resources on member benefits.
- Draft and submit monthly articles to promote sponsored member benefit programs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Policy and Programs and business partners on joint marketing and advertising efforts, including support for Education Minnesota events and publications.
- Monitor market trends to identify and recommend future benefit opportunities.
- Prepare reports and provide information for the ESI Board.
- Oversee staff coordinating exhibits for the annual Education Minnesota Professional Conference.
- Facilitate the Education Minnesota Retired program.
- Coordinate marketing of NEA and AFT member benefit programs.
- Actively participate in internal and external anti-racist and LGBTQ+ trainings.
- Model and promote a culture of equity and inclusion for members and staff, ensuring these values are reflected in all work.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of benefits, investment, and insurance plans, including savings and retirement programs such as 403(b), 457, mutual funds, and target date funds.
- Strong presentation skills with experience in both formal settings and member-focused communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong listening and reasoning abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and meet critical deadlines.
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to identify and assess member needs to ensure satisfaction and effective support.
- Strong knowledge of the importance of labor unions in improving public education.
- Familiarity with anti-racist or cultural competence curricula and tools (e.g., Beyond Diversity, Center for Culturally Responsive Teaching, Intercultural Development Index).
- Understanding of the inherent value in a culturally diverse workforce and a commitment to equity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Two (2) years’ marketing or advertising experience.
- Two (2) years’ management of staff or programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior work experience working with or on behalf of a unionized workforce.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Some travel with overnights stays.
- Possible evening and weekend work may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works in a general office environment. This position will interact with employees, vendors, members, and the general public on a somewhat regular basis. These interactions require judgment and discretion that can involve confidential information, private information and some disagreeable human interactions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Employee is required to: CONTINUOUSLY sit, talk, and hear; FREQUENTLY stand, walk, and repetitively use hands dexterously (use fingers to handle, feel), reach with hands and arms, bend and physically lift and carry up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and semifrequent travel (up to 30% of time) by various conveyances (e.g., air, rail, auto).

STARTING SALARY RANGE:
First three steps of the salary schedule, in accordance with the current staff collective bargaining agreement: $104,087-$112,909 annual; placement depends on qualifications and previous experience.
