PARKING DEPARTMENT - SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD PART TIME
Compensation Details:
- GRADE: 07T
- MIN. HOURLY WAGE: $23.03 (no benefits)
Provides for the safe movement of children and pedestrians to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Without Accommodations):
- Able to read, write, speak and understand English in order to read, interpret and follow procedures and policy guidelines.
- Able to use equipment and/or materials as specified in this job description.
- Able to see and hear well enough to perform the duties specified in this job description.
- Able to work with the general public in a polite and courteous manner.
- Able to stand for an extended period of time, up to four hours.
- Able to work outdoors with exposure to the elements.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
- Whistle, Stop Paddle, Safety Vest, Traffic Cones
ENVIRONMENT:
- Outside in all types of weather.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

DUTIES/TASKS/JOBS:
- Escorts children/pedestrians across the street/intersection while holding a stop sign in such a way to be clearly visible to all drivers.
- Signals traffic to stop/resume using stop sign and/or hand signals.
- Places and removes signs marking the location of crossings.
- Advises pedestrians who disregard guard directions of dangers and possible fines.
- Records pertinent information of traffic violators and reports to supervisor as directed.
- Arrives to work on time, appropriately groomed and attired.
- Accepts supervision, guidance and direction from superiors in a positive, respectful manner.
- Demonstrates a polite, helpful, courteous and professional image when engaged in activity with the public.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisor; convey verbal instructions/commands in a clear, concise positive manner.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to four (4) hours at a time.
- Ability to remain aware and alert to a variety of environmental factors such as moving vehicles and weather.
- Ability to use good judgment in overseeing the conduct of children.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must have the ability to deal effectively and courteously with coworkers and the general public.
- Must be in physical condition that will permit adequate job performance.
- Must successfully complete all required training as directed by manager.
- Completion of sufficient education or training to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Must not currently be or have been within the last fifteen (15) years on court- ordered community supervision or probation or convicted of any first- or second-degree misdemeanor or criminal offense.
- May not have been at any time, convicted of a felony offense or any family violence offense.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
