Senior Investment Accounting Analyst at American Equity

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:    

The Senior Investment Accounting Analyst is responsible for performing accounting, reporting and analysis over the Fixed Income and equity securities investment portfolios of American Equity Investment Life Holding Company and its affiliates and subsidiaries.  This individual will also support the company’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) rating processes and regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with statutory reporting requirements and supporting accurate communication with regulators.

  **This position is based out of West Des Moines, IA and will work an on-site hybrid schedule**

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

• Responsible for tracking and executing required NAIC filings including, but not limited to, VOS, Private Letter, Sub-1 and Sub-2 filings.
• Responsible for monitoring regulatory changes.
• Works closely with Company’s third-party accounting service providers to ensure reporting of investments is performed accurately and timely.
• Works effectively to provide necessary information, reports and analysis for internal/external auditors, internal controls and FP&A.
• Monitors changes in NAIC rating guidance and implement updates as needed.
• Performs ad hoc reporting and other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None required for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year credited college or university in accounting, finance or related field of study; plus five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Prior experience and proficiency with Blackrock Aladdin Accounting system, Clearwater, AVS+, VISION, SharePoint and MS Excel preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:

CPA desirable, but not required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:   

• Knowledge of monthly and annual NAIC rating process.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Knowledge of the investment industry, including financial data management and reporting.
• Ability to read and interpret legal documents related to investments.
• Knowledge of applicable Statutory accounting rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of NAIC filings preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external parties at all levels.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Strong attention to numeric and other details; ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply to practical situations.
• Familiarity with financial modeling concepts.
• Strong systems aptitude.
• Ability to identify process improvements that create efficiencies and improve work products.
