JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective 

The Assistant Brewer position is responsible for brewery task execution and communication with team members.  This includes ensuring tasks are being completed, brewery standards are being met and safety standards are being adhered to.  Must be quality focused and enjoy working with a positive attitude in a fast-paced work environment.

Essential Functions

  1. Enforces and adheres to proper safety procedures in the brewery

  2. Work with Head Brewer to execute brewing schedule according to recipes

  3. Clean and maintain all Brewhouse, Cellar and associated equipment/area

  4. Perform all cellar work including CIPs, dry-hopping, carbonation, and kegging

  5. Perform yeast harvests and pitches in a sanitary manner

  6. Manage grain, hop, and other raw material inventory and deliveries

  7. Coordinate and assist with farmer to get spent grain hauled away

  8. Enter all beer movements in EKOS software

  9. Perform routine maintenance on pumps, valves, heat exchangers, etc

  10. Formulate and execute recipes within brewlog specs and record all info on log

  11. Centrifuge operation with a keen focus on minimal oxygen pick-up

  12. Barrel filling, racking, cleaning, maintenance, tasting, and movement

  13. Safely operate forklift

Supervisory Responsibility

No.  Works closely with Head Brewer, Manager of Brewery Ops and Director of Quality to ensure Big Grove produces the best beer possible.

Work Environment

This position operates in a hospitality/ brewery environment. This role routinely uses cleaning chemicals, works in an unconditioned space with steam and boiling liquids and works with power equipment.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position and hours of work/ days may vary from week to week.  Schedules will be posted the week prior to allow time for employees to be informed of work requirements. The business is open 7 days a week.  Weekends are likely a key requirement.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Up to 1 year of related management experience

  3. 2-5 years of experience working in the brewery industry
