Union Square Greenmarket Publicity Manager (Full-time):
Position Summary
The Union Square Greenmarket Publicity Manager will be responsible for representing and promoting Greenmarket’s flagship market and the GrowNYC mission through at-market programming, special events, and social media. Part of your time will be spent cultivating professional relationships with farmers, city-wide organizations, partners, chefs, and individuals, and utilize these connections to further promote the market and help Greenmarket create viable markets for its producers.
Requirements
At-Market Programming, Operations, and Staff Management
- Plan and oversee educational and engaging daily market programming and special one-off events and activations.
- Liaise and build relationships with Greenmarket producers, customers, community partners, and chefs who shop at the market.
- Provide customer service and support with knowledge, friendliness and respect.
- Manage the set-up, break down, and overall presentation of the Market Information Tent and programming space.
- Manage the sales and tracking of merchandise at the market.
- Manage Union Square Greenmarket social media accounts, including crafting compelling content and responding to inquiries.
- Train and supervise the Union Square Greenmarket Publicity and Programming team.
- Train and supervise Union Square Greenmarket EBT Site Leads in their EBT-related duties at-market and off-site administrative tasks.
- Manage Greenmarket volunteers and interns, including training, assigning tasks, and coordinating schedules.
Administrative Planning and Outreach
- Attend weekly check-ins with the Union Square General Manager and Greenmarket Publicity Manager.
- Submit content for USQ Greenmarket webpage and monthly producer newsletters.
- Facilitate Union Square publicity and programming planning meetings for at-market programming and social media efforts.
- In collaboration with the Union Square General Manager and Union Square Operations Manager, help plan monthly all-team meetings, occasional staff outings, and at-market celebrations to help maintain staff morale and overall team cohesiveness.
- Oversee the creation of marketing materials for Union Square programming signage and handouts.
- Manage the Union Square Greenmarket programming budget, spending, and expense reporting.
- Collaborate with the Union Square Greenmarket General Manager, the Greenmarket Administrative Manager, and the Human Resources team to recruit, hire, and onboard new market staff.
- Stay aware of farm, sustainability and food industry news, and attend food networking events in NYC.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience working in farming, farmers markets, local agriculture, and/or food access.
- 2+ years of experience working in event programming and production.
- 2+ years of experience with community outreach and engagement.
- 2+ years of experience managing staff (preferably supervisory experience similar in scope to current Food Access field-based staffing) with a people-centered leadership style.
- 2+ years of experience in digital content creation and social media.
- Proactive orientation with excellent time management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Creative problem-solver, able to troubleshoot and use good judgment to make on-the-spot decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work with people from diverse backgrounds in terms of race, ethnicity, gender (including trans and nonbinary), sexual orientation, class, and religion.
- Strong commitment to a racially and socially just food system.
- Dispute mediation and de-escalation skills.
- Proficient in Google Drive, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva programs.
- Valid drivers license and comfortable driving a box truck.
- Able to work 10-hour market shifts, early mornings and Saturdays.
Physical Requirements
Set up and/or break down the Market Info Tent which involves carrying weights, tents, and folding tables weighing up to 65lbs (aiding techniques/tools will be provided for safe lifting upon request) and the ability to stand for 10 hour shifts and perform various labor-intensive tasks in all weather conditions.
Schedule
The schedule is 35-40 hours a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at the market; and in-person office work on Thursdays located in Manhattan. This position requires availability for early mornings, Saturdays, and 10 hour market shifts.
Compensation
The position is an exempt, full-time salaried position and pays $65,000 - $70,000 yearly, commensurate upon experience. Includes full-time benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, Long Term disability, Incentive Savings plan, paid holidays, sick leave, PTO, commute, and FSA programs). This position is not union eligible/ not a part of the bargaining unit.
